I hooked the tach up and the needle works great. The shift light and auto dim light is not coming on. The shift light comes on for a second once the ignition is turned on. I have check my wiring and it looks correct. Black to ground, red to 12v, white to dash light, and green to my msd 6al box. Any thoughts?

Did you perform the setup function for the shift light described in the installation booklet? Since the light flashes you know the bulb is good. Revisit your shift point setup for this issue. If fails I speculate a bad tach. Shift points are internal to the tach. If you are reading RPM with the engine running tach, and main 12v connections are likely fine.
After checking that the bulb is good on the tachometer back light (resistance check with a digital multimeter), setup for voltage and verify you have 12 volts with the panel lights turned on through the socket. Next also check you have a good ground. (should have since tach needle is working). If you wired teh back lighting direct to ignition controlled source, check you have 12 volts with key on.

Good luck.
