Retiming question

I just finished installing a new MSD 6AL 2 on my 85 and was curious if I need to adjust the timing? Ive noticed some backfiring out of the carb when I hit the gas and I read somewhere it might be a necessary to adjust.

Adding the ignition itself should not cause that issue in most cases. Go ahead and check the timing and make adjustments as needed. Make sure the ignition is grounded well and also check to make sure that the timing on the 6AL2 ignition is where it should be. The burn of this ignition is 20 degrees of crankshaft rotation, that could be the issue.

It seems to have gone away, although now it feels like the car might be slightly slower
