does anyone think a wrap is a feasible alternative to a paint job? if so, is there anyone around who does this kind of work?

thanks for any input.

I beleive its fairly expensive to wrap a vehicle.

I was hoping it'd be cheaper, that was my only motivation in going this route.

I like the looks of that company, I'll have to give them a call tomorrow.

I emailed a couple places in the area asking for quotes on my car, so I'll update this when I hear back from them.

CGI Digital in Mt. Healthy does wraps as well. TJ is on here from time to time.

Wraps can be cool, but you'll lose the gloss "zing" of paint.

dave, the gloss is something I hadn't thought of before. I guess my paint doesn't have much "zing" right now anyways!

Here is the first company to reply. a best case scenario of 1700 seems a bit too much for me. if the other companies quotes are similar, I think I'll just save up for paint.

I have a 1998 mustang gt convertible, and was looking for alternatives to a paintjob. would this be a reasonable route to take for a complete color change/redesign? I am pondering either just one simple solid color, or possibly a two tone with a third color to break up the first two. how much would this set me back? thanks for the time.

-Jake.

to me
The typical vehicle wrap will last 3-5 years and up depending on what use and conditions the vehicle is in day to day as opposed to a paint job. For advertising it is the only way to go...with a budget for a personal vehicle, depends on what you have in mind for your vehicle. The cost for the wrap does vary from vehicle to vehicle. Yours would (sight unseen) start at $1700 and up. Right now I am 3-4 weeks out on installation. Let me know if I can be of any other assistance.

Thank you,

Wow. 3-5 years? A 2000 dollar paint job should last you double that time frame

Wraps are only good for advertising purpose in reality

Wow that's crazy! I thought they ran 5 to 800 tops, I couldnt see using a wrap over paint at that price unless I was advertising.

And it also depends on how many layers/colors you have. My uncles dirt modified runs $3k to wrap, and it's missing half the panels and the rest of them are flat!

most of the fancier wraps are 2-4k

I actually looked into the wrap business - the low end of the spectrum wraps are around $1800 and you can get as high as $8k. A lot depends on the materials, colors, and how intricate the install is. With the cost of the printer, software and materials, I figured I might be able to break even sometime when I am 97. Most shops don't make a lot of profit at all off the wraps due to their intensive manner.

This^^^ I agree. I do them and I would reccomend paint over the wrap.
