My '85 GT restoration is looking good. This is a one owner car, I bought it new in late 1984. As a lot of silver cars did, the paint was looking really bad and about 10-15 years ago I had a brain fart and had it painted Ford Light Oxford Gray. Also had an after market moon roof installed (another brain fart). Neither of these were great ideas. The paint job was just so so, and the moon roof ended up causing serious rust inside the roof.
The doors, hood and hatch had gotten "seam rust", which cannot be stopped.
I decided to have the car (the main body of the car is still very solid, no rust or dents) restored and returned to it's factory silver with black stripes. I aquired a pair of Florida rust free doors, a rust free hood and hatch. I also decided to replace the sand blasted windshield and install new ACC carpeting.
When the restorer got into the job, he found the roof rust. Only thing to do was get a donor roof, which he did. Problem solved. Was just into the shop today and after 2 months, the car now is painted (base coat-clear coat and looks like a new dime. He's going to repaint all the trim to original factory color. In about 2 more weeks, I expect to be driving a better than new 1985 Mustang GT home. Pics will follow at that time. Restoration is being done by Bruce Gould of Gould & Son.
