Would there be any difference in changing stock cams with something performance? with leaving the heads stock on an 02 GT?

yes depending on which cam you go with

cams would wake the car up, alot of power to be had from just cams, but they have to be installed correct meaning (degreed) right

Also you need to have the supporting valvetrain modifications i.e. valve springs. Also if you put a performance intake on they go together great.

Comp 262's, VT/CMS stage 1's, or something similar. Don't buy anything big because won't have enough piston to valve clearance.

I have 270's in mine without any problems

I had them and 270's are a crap shoot with out notched pistons. You definitely can't throw them in and go with it. Mine were retarded 4 degrees with adjustable cam gears to get enough clearance. You can make just as much power and more torquewith smaller cams. I had 270's my buddy has VT stage 1's with almost identical cars. We made the same HP but he made 20+ ft-lbs more torque.

Is the 262 or the 270 a big enough cam to hear the cams thru the exhaust? I'm not really looking to make a ton of power on just cams alone I know that won't happen but I want to be able to feel a difference when I drive and when I shift it

A lot of it depends on the tune and how low the tuner can get it to idle.

I installed a set of 262's in a 2000 GT and the car sounds awesome. If you want to hear what they sound like just look them up on youtube. Look up Comp 262 cams and there is quite a few videos. The car we put the cams in made 288 wheel hp all motor and the cams made a big difference in power up top.

ford put really crappy heads and even worst cams in the mod engines, the newer ones (PI) are better in the head department but not much in the cam department, comp cams-262 589.99$ and have them instealled correctly 250$-300$ there is some companys making cam gears already degreed slap them on and done, id rather have mine done by a good shop- dyno tuned 300$, Comp Cams Valve Springs Beehive 209.99$, there some more power to be had out of a good intake and fuel injectors to,, or buy a Supercharger Kits or a turbo kit and forget about it lol either way its got be dyno/tuned
FYI- who care what it sounds like when your car lengths ahead of the other guy lol

A mustang that doesn't sound good you might as well be driving a camaro. Not that I have anything against camaros but the mustang sound is a lot of what a mustang is. Plus I don't really race too much anymore. I just want something to play with for now lol

That car after we swapped my T45 in it made 300+ RWHP and 300+ ft-lbs of torque with stock PI heads, Flowtech long tubes, JLT CAI, Accufab Plenum and Throttle body. My car with comp 270's made 301/292.
