starts cold fine. run it for 5 to 10 min and shut it off and you cant start it for another 20 min... just put a new starter in it and it acts the same as the old one. i wonder if it has anything to do with the battery in the rear of the car? maybe too much resistance or i need additional grounds?? any ideas? i can retard the timing and get it to start hot but then i cant get over 5 psi boost when i normally make 13 . before i go buy a start/retard controller i thought id see if anyone ever experienced this. thanks for any input

Does the car crank over but not start or not wanting to crank at all(kind of like bat is dead). I just had a simular issue. Put a new starter on, backed of timing, thermo jacket for stater, and added a ground to the head. Car starts great now.

GROUND GROUND GROUND, and proper size GROUND GROUND GROUND. If at all possible and if you want to eleminate troubleshooting take the ground all the way to block from battery.

doesnt want to crank. had 12.22 at the battery key off. dropped to 9.22 trying to crank. seems like a huge draw to me. hell the battery might be getting tired. its 1000 cca but its getting old. i did just put a new alt. in it. the old one was weak. maybe thatll help

The ground will help. If you want to test the theory run you a jumper cable

I had this same issue, mine was because of a bad ground, i ran my ground from batt to the quad shock bolt, then from there to block, then one from there to the inner fender, that solved my problem. make sure all spots of ground r ground clean also

^^ THIS ^^

Can't stress enough the need of very good grounds. I would ground to back of block from battery with a proper sized wire and then ground body/chassis from there. Also, sounds as if you possibly have a cell going bad in your battery. Probably should get it checked out so you aren't chasing your tail.

What size hot wire do you have running from the battery to the solenoid switch and from there to the starter?

1 guage if i remember correctly. its not too small, im sure of that. i think its a combination of the battery and the need for a better ground as well

I had the same issue, fought it for years. Grounded from the battery to the block plus from the block to the frame. I started thinking it was the ignition, posted on another forum and 2 guys told me to run the negative of the battery to one of the mounting bolts on the starter. Problem fixed i cant believe how fast it turns over. ( now this was on a 383 chevy) Just my 2 cents . Mike
