Im about due for a new mod to my 97 cobra and dont really know what to do to it next it has; underdrive pullies, 4.10 gear, sct tuner, long tubes, x pipe with flows, bbk cai, msd coils, nitto 555s, steeda tri ax, spec stage 3 clutch, 99-01 cobra tremec t-45...thats all i can think of but im looking for the next thing to do to it without power adders. Any ideas?

Heads and cams?

It would be cheaper and easier to put a blower on it and than to swap heads and cams. besides the heads already flow a ton of air out of the box. You could hve the runners on the intake shortened and put new cams in for a nice gain but blower or turbo would get you more. Myabe jimssvt can offer his opinion since he's gone down both roads.

I thought bout doing the 99-01 cobra head and intake swap on it is that a good gain?

That I am not sure. Just thinking of things to do without a power adder. There's always suspension upgrades too.

I just dont really have the money right now for a power adder so i been thinking of the more reasonable mods for now until i can get a supercharger for it

Cams!!! They sound wicked and you should feel them! If not just slap some nitrous on it!

Nitrous ftw. That's the 2nd thing i do to any 4v cars. First being a 410-430 gear.
They love a 150shot. I made 430whp with a set of weld in Mac mufflers a cai, catted bbk hpipe and 150 shot in a 96 Cobra. Get the cheap sniper efi kit at jegs for a little over 300$.

I have put alot of thought into cams and nitrous 1 of those will probably be my next major thing i do anyone know of a good sounding muffler on these cars i have flowmasters on it and hate them. Also just out of curiosity anyone have a ball park estimate of what my car with the mods done and a good tune would put to the ground?

what are your goals for the car? that really should be what drives your mods if you're just looking to go fast you need to determine what's fast to you........ are you trying to hit a number at the track or ????

Nitros and cams are good mods. Maybe some port work. As for the mufflers, I like Borlas with a o/r prochamber mid pipe. I seen a video of a 97 cobra with this setup on another website. Sounds great. Ill see if I can find it. I would also do a rearend build. If you cant get the power to the ground without breaking then too much power is useless.

You trying to get fast enough to outrun that blue sti in town that you put 7 cars on ? LOL

If you do swap heads I would use the cams you have now in the 99-01 heads heard there worth a few hp. If you don't have the heads id keep the b heads you have do a ported short runner intake IMRC deletes while you have the intake off nitrous & a tune unless you do the ported short runner and save for a blower. You could always do suspension to if you haven't to get the power to the ground. Or weight reduction.

Haha thanks smytty and how did u hear bout that billy? But im really looking for my car to just be supercharged and i'd be happy when im done with everything to just havr a 400-450 rwhp car until i get bored with it lol

Here's the video of the exhaust. Borla xr-1 and it has a Dr Gas X not a prochamber. You should do a terminator swap. You can get there with the Eaton. Or do the head swap off an 03-04 cobra and pick up an eaton. They can be had cheap. You can do some research on svtperformance.com.

cams are awesome, but as ive found, VERY expensive. Nitrous is the cheapest way to go fast. But if you had the money, id go turbo personally

Justin - i agree with rtvickers . have you looked on ebay for a stock eaton off a 03-04 cobra . Last time i looked they can be bought in the 300-400 dollar range . I would think you could get the heads for around 600 ? Dont quote me on that , but that would be the cheapest route i think to get you where you wanna go.

I'd like to do the eaton swap as well some day a lot of times there are packages or deals to be had but if you don't do your homework the swap can add up quick if you have to by parts seperate instead of in a package.

Only problem with the 03 04 cobra swap is u have to buy a few more things such as timing cover i think coolant brackets etc but it would be worth it and yes that's the one. Does anyone know anything about the imrc deletes on these cars? Im ordering my magnaflow magnapack exhaust today

I think i'll start to research the swap and begin buying the necessary parts to do it or try and find a kit to save up and buy

You would be better off just finding a used vortec/paxton/procharger kit. Instead of tearing your motor down to do new heads and stuff.

It wouldn't be worth a head and intake swap at all. The only reason I would ever swap to C heads would be to Whipple it...which is an option if you have a built bottom end to make it worth it. You can find a used supercharger kit for about 2500 including bypass, and plumbing, and intercooler. But these arent easy cheap mods, tuning would be required on top of that, and its not the best bang for the buck. Best bang for the buck will always be Nitrous. But there are safety issues, and issues with low bottle pressure and running out of nitrous wen you really need/want it. And the continued cost of filling bottles.
Is this your daily driver? If not, then I would get some better tires possibly. It's got to be hard to hook with those gears on street radials. Considered Mickey Thompson drag radials? I had a set on my Cobra with 510 rwhp and I would never have a regular street radial on a car over 400hp again, especially with gears. If tires are out of the question then maybe a nice single blade throttle body? IMRC deletes? Both of those are on the cheaper side. Maybe some weight reduction? A lot of weight can be saved with tubular suspension/coilovers. 03-04 Cobra seats? Those would all be on my own personal list for any 96-98 Cobra.

Not worth it at all. My car picked up 2rwhp on the dyno N/A. My stock longblock na motor went 11.31 @120.2 years ago withouttakin a valve cover off. Good suspension and all the right parts with some weight reduction worked great. And drive it like you dont care lol. I then did a set of cleaned up heads and a set of comp cams 106500s on the stock shortblock and thecar went a 10.70 @ 127 na.

in continuation with mystic's post, get the NT05R, not as much street life as the 555r, but very streetable and they hook even better at the track

Youll have over 2k in a cam swap if you dont do it yourself. Because youll have the cams and valve springs. Then labor. And then a tune on that. A used vortech setup will be a better move

I've been trying to find a used vortech forever can't find one and anything that's done to my car my dad does it so labors not an issue thankfully

Ummmmm no. Those tires are a joke. I watched him peddle his 04mystic car at over 100mph on the bottle, last night with both of us in the car on the 555rs it dead hooked in 2nd gear on the sauce. Keep in mind that monster makes 700+rwhp and 860rwtq. the 555R tires are $ on a 94-04.

You are right about that, but that sure won't be the case when he gets a blower to force air into that throttle body.

you must have had a weird set or something... 95% of reviews on the NT05R vs the 555R, the owner says the NT05R hooked better
