Hey guys, my 5.4 is making a rattling sound seemingly from the left head. Its only at low rpm and not under a load and even then its not consistently there. Sometimes it doesnt make the noise at all. I changed the oil and plugs but made no difference. When it does make the noise its right around 1300 rpm or lower and like I said doesnt do it under a load. I appreciate any ideas you guys might have!

Most likely lifters.

X2 on the lifters it's a common 4.6 and 5.4 problem

Changing them is about it, even new ones have a tendency to make noise after a few thousand miles my brother has a 99 cobra and it has had this issue and my mom has a 02 expedition 5.4 and they have been replaced as well, they aren't that hard to change

Is it a 2 valve 3 valve or 4 valve motor? What is it in?

Its a 2 valve. The problem is getting the valve cover off. There is 0 clearance since the 5.4 is taller than a 4.6 and at the very least the master cylinder will have to come off. Guess I might have to though if it keeps bothering me.

Yeah u have to remove the master cylinder but it's pretty simple

With my car having an even wider engine being a 5.4 there is NO clearance to seemingly get the booster off. How does the master cylinder come off the booster? And even then I think the booster will have to come off to get the last bolt or 2. Let me know if any of you guys have any tips or tricks to get them out. THIS SUCKS!!!
