on my 04 supercrew I did magnaflow catback, with just a drop in k&n and programmed it and had significant improvement in the lazy drive by pedal throttle response, and gained about 1 mpg plus sounded great. Now a customer of mine with bigger gears in his seen 3 mpg change with the exact same setup. And all the cold air intakes were tested back in the day and at running temps gave only like 1-3 hp gains. The claims of 19 hp ect were only found in cold engine bays after first being put in and dyno'd if driven for 15 min the gain was all but gone. I was getting about 17 mpg in my country/city driving.

Fordfan on here has one as well he did the K&N like the first week he had it and i'll tell you i've never heard a cold air intake do so much for any motor as the 5.4 it was like he put full exhaust on it. He also has a programer for it that works off of his android it's pretty sweet.

Don't the 05 5.4s have issues with the spark plugs breaking apart when you try to replace them???

Yip, just like the 3 v 4.6 they tend to leave the electrode in the head. There is a removal kit should that happen. Brisk makes a one piece plug that resolves this on the 4.6 3V. There are videos out there on using KROIL to help minimize this from happening. My plugs were replaced with Brisk on the 05 at 40K they came out with little issue. Others have not been so lucky. it's a crap shoot. Good luck or just leavethem in.

what is this programing that you speak of? or do you mean a dyno tune. if i get off a decent time friday its getting the exhaust done.

pm Fordfan on here it's a slick little hand held tuner that plugs into you OBD port and then he can monitor it all from his andriod and make changes it's pretty daum neat i know that

Edge Products makes a plug in tuner/display for the dash, called Edge Evolution. I put an airaid intake, Mac cat back, and the Edge box on my '06 5.4 F150 and it picked upa good amount of power. Peak increase was 18hp and 65 ft. Lbs tq. It also picked up a slid 2 mpg, and the transmission sluggishness was gone! 0-60 in the truck went down to 6.8 seconds. The display on the dash is worth the cost itself. Below is a general idea of performance difference. A normal 5.4 4WD dynos about 220rwhp stock.

Edge Evolution level 3
HP: 165@3000 TQ: 290@3000
----220@3500-------325@3500
----240@4000-------318@4000
----253@4500-------295@4500

Without Edge (with exhaust/intake)
HP: xxx@3000 TQ: xxx@3000
-----145@3500------215@3500
-----195@4000------260@4000
-----210@4500------240@4500
-----235@5100------245@5100
