Anyone run this cam on a non pi engine?
Had Bes build a set of pi heads. They recommended
That cam for my set up. Tony insured me that the cam
Don't need degreed if it's installed properly. Just looking
For more feed back.

If you don't have vale reliefs in the pistons you will bend valves. Personally I wouldn't install any aftermarket cams without decreeing them because there can be a tremendous amount of variation in the factory cam gears.

You see... That's what I have read. But I thought I could take the word of Tony bishoff.
I mentioned that to him. And he said comp is very good for having their cams zeroed in on the centerline.

What cams are you running and who degreed your cams?

The problem isn't the cams it's the cam gears. Its notincommong to have one gear that is advanced and one that is retarded which can rob power. Do you have valve reliefs cut in the pistons? With 270s on my stock NPI short block and stock PI heads we had to retard the cams 4 degrees to get enought PTV Clarence. I don't think I've ever seen anyone run 278s without valve reliefs...at least not successfully.

I have custom cams...they kind of make 278s look tiny. :D. Nxcoupe is handling the engine assembly and install but I was there as a second set of hands and eyes for the cam setup.

I don't have valve reliefs. So I guess my next question is, even when degreed can those cams work with the stock non pi pistons. I guess I'll make some calls to Tony and comp this week. I'll post any useful info I dig up

No Without valve reliefs you will bend valves with the 278s.

Surely tony could notch the pistons to acquire the camshafts

Yes he could. But he assured me that it was not needed.
Plus the motor is in the car. I really didn't want to pull it
