At what point is an aftermarket ignition box required?

What kind of power are u trying to make, my buddy has a single turbo fox that makes right at 500whp on the factory ignition

It really wouldn't benefit u to use a aftermarket ignition IMHO, unless it was a really radical small block (nearly unstreetable), I run factory stuff without any issues

I have the factory box back on my car, the only reason I'm going to MSD is to get a timing retard.

At what time?? Whenever you feel like taking a chance at walking to or from your destination instead of driving your Mustang.....LOL! Stick with the Ford stuff.

I used msd stuff. I can't put it any better than factory stuff for reliability. I made sure that if it failed I could switch back to the stock stuff wherever it broke.

Just had a msd distributor go bad last week ,and it was less than a year old. Put the factory one back in , and if fired right up.
Worst 300.00 dollars i've spent .well maybe not lol
