So, when my house finally completes the sale and I get a check, I plan on putting 5k or so into my mustang's engine. Now I know a lot of people would say boost, but I've been thinking about doing it a little different. So my question would be which setup would be better and why? Also, how much compression could be run safely on 93, and overall what kind of power. I'm also looking at running at least a 125 shot on the setup so take that into account.

So which way to go?
forged 4.6 with trickflow heads and intake, MAC long tubes.
OR
5.4 with trickflow heads, HPS intake, FR shorties.

Heads would be hopefully a stg 2 setup.

Personally I would go with the 4.6 over the 5.4. There are no off the shelf long tube headers for the 5.4 and running shorties on there with TFS heads seems kind of silly to me. There are also far more intake options for the 4.6. As far as the compression ratio goes that somewhat depends on the cams. From my research you can get away with higher static compression when you have largers cams with more overlap to bleed off some fo the compression. 11:1 and under seems to be pretty safe for pump gas.

Hopefully in the next week or two I might have some real numbers to go with a TFS headed high compression 4.6.

Well I have been reading a lot about the 5.4 swap, specifically with the tfs. A lot of people say there is no benefit to doing it, but I would think it would be worth something to get the extra displacement. I'm kinda set on doing the NA route just to be a little different and see what can come of 4.6/5.4.

You would be better off with a Boss 5.0L block to build either a big bore or big bore strokes if you want more cubic inches. There are a lot more benenfits from the 3.70" bore it offers.

So, say I stay with the 4.6l but do the rest. What kind of power would I be looking at?

That's a good question. There aren't a lot of combos out there like that and most of them belong to heads up class racers so you would hard pressed to find any dyno numbers. I have an issue to work out with my bell housing but I hope to have it fired up and on the dyno in the next couple of weeks. It will be more radical than what you are looking at but it should provide an idea of what kind of potential there is.
