my new setup will be a 306 with x303 cam, gt40x heads, 1.6 roller rocker, what pushrods should I run? I am pretty sure i need hardend ones since the heads have valve guides.

You'll need a pushrod checker, should be in the 6.7" range

How are your heads set up ??
If they're pedestal mount heads , the stock pushrod length is 6.27, so anything around 6.30 should work, but you should always measure to be sure....
If you've milled off the pedestals and converted to stud mount rockers, then you definitely need to measure.
6.7 would probably be much too long if you're still using pedestal style bolt down rockers.
Also, if you're using guideplates, then yes, you need hardened pushrods.

U can use a stock pushrod and cut it half and take a small section out of it then tap both ends to accept a piece of all thread with 2 jam nuts to use as a checker, worked for me and it doesn't cost hardly anything
