I am being given a 91 or something in that year 4cyl reg cab ranger. Seems to be a decent little 2wd truck and the clutch is good as well. It was my sisters and she has put 180,000 miles on it so I know its getting tired. I gave her a heck of a deal on a 2013 escape sel ecoboost 4wd last night so I get the little truck. Whats some things you can do to make these a little more fun? I was thinking a 4.0 swap? V8 swap? Leave it alone???? lol Any ideas from you guys. If you have an idea if you can give me an idea of what you think the cost could be. I will not be doing the work my self but I know some people that do work cheep and arent afraid to take on a fun little project. Not looking for anything to crazy. Just a fun little toy.

I don't know why you would even waste one dime trying to make an old ass 4cly ranger into a fun little toy when you already have a couple fun cars but to each there own. Also I wouldn't be scared of 180k miles if the rest of the truck is in decent shape and you know it was took care of for the 180k. I had a couple of these for beater work trucks when I was in the equipment operators union years ago and traveled a ton for work. The little bastards run forever. Had one well over 200k when I sold it and it was still going strong just had to add a quart of oil every other tank of gas. Lol

Leave it alone and use it as a free 180k mile beater truck. The only dime I'd put in it would be for maintenance, unless it looks completely haggard, then I might put $100 or so towards making it look a little more presentable. Lol

My ranger has 280k on it and still runs great, still gets 24 mpg hauling. It's not a bad truck, but mine is ticking and rattling, so it's not long for this world. Mine's getting a V8 swap soon, but it's easy in the 98 ups. I want the 2.5 in it for my turbo build in my coupe. Just drive it and enjoy some good gas mileage.

My dad and I did a 302 swap into an 88 Ranger waaay back before the interwebs came along. It wasn't too hard to do because we made it carb'd.

you could sell it to me for dirt cheap and I will then shoot it, and then blow it up with about 30 pounds of explosives

It actually looks nice. She took care of it so it wouldnt leave her in a bind. Just found out its a 96. Its that green color with base wheels. Do fox body wheels fit these things?

Fox body wheels are 4 lug. Rangers are 5 lug but 94 and up mustang wheels will fit.

Drive it until it dies. At the absolute most buy a set of wheel spacers and a set of newer mustang wheels. Anything beyond that is a waste of time , effort and money. It just seems much more logical to put money into the Mustang or Vette that has an actual value. To each their own I guess

I know. But i figured the truck was free so if i put 1200 into it to make a stupid toy u that's still fun i figured no harm.

well you said money wasn't a option, then said you wanna spend 1200 on it? I don't see 1200 doing much more then wheels and tires, and a good tune up. lol

sean
02-15-2013, 08:19 AM
Didn't say money wasn't an option but yea i have a few friends with motors taking up space and other spare parts that could have this done for around 1200.

More money than since and money isn't an option are a bit different. But thank you for your input. A tuneup and some wheels could work too. Prob even for under 1200. LOL

It will. Maybe not between the wheel wells.

You think on the wells or just fit as long as the tail gate is open.

Tub it, slam it, leave the 4 cyl...just to mess with people.

sean
02-15-2013, 10:17 PM
I may just start hoarding parts when I can get them for a steal and some day..... sell off everything without messing with any of it. lol. Ill just be happy to put a quad in the back and get a small trailer and pull another quad behind it.

Put a turbo on that piece man! My neighbor has a small semi homemade trailor for $50. It does had a front axle and leaf springs on it, should be able to haul a quad on.

Can you get me a pic of the trailer? 50 bucks sounds like a great price. Cant expect much at all for the price but a 50 dollar trailer sounds scary. Turbo sounds fun but I have no knowledge on how to go about putting one on. It is a base xl truck so no ac or power steering to get in the way.
