Im getting ready to go to Texas to buy an 03 Cobra and wonder what all issues or info I need. I am buying a trailer as well from the same guy. Talking to him he says it is a home built trailer so that's the only info they needed. Title to the car is clean and clear of any liens. What all will I need to do on both???

the car will have to go to the bmv and have them do an inspection on it. Just running vin and odometer. The trailer will need to be weighted and get a slip with the weight. Then take that to the bmv and they will issue you tags.

Out of State inspection on the Cobra, if the trailer has a title I believe you'll have to do the same, if no title you'll have to have the trailer weighed, then take that to the BMV or Title Office, been a while since I have done a trailer:).

I'm not sure about the trailer but with the car if your paying cash I would think you guys would go to a notary of some sort like a bank and have the title notarized. When you get back home go to your DMV and register the car. I'd say you'll need I.D./Liscense, check book, and maybe proof of Insurance. Glad to hear your picking up a Cobra. What are the details?

Double check with the BMV what the rules are in Texas for how a title has to be notarized. Every state is different and they BMV has a book that details the rules for each state. Some states only the seller has to have his signature on the title notarized, some states both the buyer and seller and in some states neither party has to. This way you don't have to go through a hassle if you don't need a notary, and you don't inadvertently create a paperwork snafu.

you will need a bill of sale for the car for sure, it can be hand written. car don't have to go to the bmv if you know a car lot or some one to do out of state inspection. take title, inspection and bill of sale and your good to go.

Talking to him, he said there that you can just say its homebuilt and they issue a tag. Im driving down and buying the car and trailer, I just want to make sure I can get it all back here with out any problems. He works at a car lot so the car I don't think will be an issue.

For the trailer all you need is to take it and get a weigh slip. You get your tags and registration with that. Just did this last week with a boat trailer from Indiana.

Hell Yeah! Sound like a recipe for a badass ride. You gonna be able to drive it on the street? After you get it home you should post some pics and video. Good luck on your trip. Be safe.

i just bought a truck from houston last week, i had a few issues, Ohio needs a written bill of sale with a texas title since there is no where on a LA/TX title that asks for purchase price.

Well made the 2100 mile round trip, to come back empty handed! Car had everything I wanted but wasn't near as nice as the ad stated. Was a complete waste of time! Im still on the look out for a clean 03/04 Cobra if anyone see's any.

Damn that really sucks. I'll see what I can find for ya. Any specifics.

Wow that sucks but I would have never made a trip that far without knowing just what your going to get. I bet you learned a good lesson. I bought my Cobra without going to look at it. The guy sent TONS of pics of every single thing I asked to see and made a few lengthy walk around videos for me. I had it shipped from Utah and there were no surprises when it got here and I lay eyes on it for the first time in person.

Yeah I had him send me tons of pictures, talked to him several times, clean car fax and all that... When the accident isn't reported it doesn't show up on the car fax. None of the items that I found wrong was in any of the pictures! Total waste!

Sucks. I've been there before but I only had to go to Louisville to look at the lying bastards car.

Yeah it was bad! It would've been different if I just went on a whim but I asked for pictures and any details I could get before I even thought about loading up and heading down. Its a 38K original mile car... And when he said he bent the front lower a arm with a ratchet strap, I about lost it...

Oh well, Life goes on and I learned a lesson. Guess Ill hop back into the old black car or finish the 85 and just go racing!

Oh yeah how did you like the 03 out tearing up the XOS on 8.5's? Funny shit huh!

right, I buy my trucks from Texas, I always have sight unseen, but I ask for all kinds of pics and feel the seller out, if they don't give me what I want I will not buy..... I have yet to be burned and of course always leave a little room for disappointment.... but has not happened yet, same as my Cobra from California... all has been good!!

Not one time by private owner have I been asked, I bought many from out of state, just did my Cobra from Cali last month also, if you buy from a dealer you MUST have it, not private....
