I think I've narrowed my rattle down to detonation. I looked and apparently I have an SCT5500B chip. Does anyone have any specs on this? I did a search and came up with nothing. Just wanted to know if it was a plug and play or if it was a tuned chip. If it was a plug and play I was going to take it out to see if it retarded my timing, but if it was a tuned chip I don't wang to mess with it and have something else go bad.

Sounds like it was a custom tune...but it could just a canned tune from SCT. More than likely without the chip but with aftermarket cams it's going to run like total crap especially at idle.

The cams aren't aggressive at all. 214 duration and a .550 lift

Wow, those are tiny cams. Do you have any idea what the compression ration is?

I don't know why they would buy custom ground cams that small. That's definitely going to be upgraded soon. I think it's a stock compression block so with the PI heads it should be around 10.5 or so. I'm just wondering if the chip set the timing too far forward.

That's a possibility. I think you should be Ok to remove it and give it a try.

Update: I removed the chip. Doesn't run as strong but definitely cut down on the detonation. Going to have it reprogrammed. Thank you
