What all does it entail to convert y fox over to The new style ac? And also when the ac is on the car runs like dog shit, won't idle and shuts off, and the temp gauge rises up. I'm sure the car isn't over heating as I don't trust the stock gauge. When I turn my headlight on the temp gauge rises. What could cause this? Sorry if there is typos my phone is junk!

To change it over to r-134a the RIGHT way, you'd need to replace the Accumulator an the orifice tube/ TXV ( I can't remember which one the Foxes have) as the oil weights are different and they are not compatible. Might be a good idea to have it flushed to make sure all the oils out. The crappy idle could be a bad compressor clutch if it's locked up so when it engages it puts too much load on the engine. Take of the belt and see if the FRONT part of the compressor (not just the pulley) turns relatively freely.

How much does the temp gauge move?

It will visibly like "overheat" I'm not sure it will go up a bar or 2 on the gauge. I'm debating just deleting the hole thing but I like the idea of having it on there so I could drive Te car when it's hot as shit out side

The only thing I can think of that would make the temp rise when the headlights are turned on is a wiring issue. Maybe a couple wires slightly rubbing together. If the condenser is clogged that could cause the temp to rise a little. If you are planning on swapping out the system, I'd take out the condenser an spray it off, check the compressor and put in a new accumulator, put half the oil in the compressor and half in the accumulator and make sure it has the correct amount of charge.
Trust me, I understand... I have to replace my entire system (considering its been completely removed.

I think you're thinking of the GM style compressor Kevin. Its less of a parasite when it comes to belt drag. However the part number escapes me at the moment.

Are the early fords different? I just replaced a compressor in a F-150 and it was the same style.

Well my thought was if it isn't a hassle ill make it work. If it is ill delete the whole system!!!

It would definitely be easier, lol. Just don't CUT the AC lines heading into the dash. You can reuse the condenser and lines if you want to put it back in later with a new compressor and accumulator.
