It's been a hellva month so far Wednesday dad went unresponsive on mom she ran up stairs and got me I slapped him and gave him a sternal run nothing so I told mom to call 911 she did and I gave dad CPR until they got here they shocked him twice and got his heart going and gave him a IV 20 gauge in his neck we get to the hospital Gmh he's awake but still out of it the EKG doesn't show a heart attack but the blood test did we have him transported to Mvh, Tuesday he wakes up a little tells the docs he is having tunnel vison they give him a MRI it comes back a stroke and the neuro doc and heart dock are in a fight over doing the cath lab or not due to the possibility of a brain bleed. FF to today he's doing better his full vision hasn't returned yet but his pain is much lower ( when I was giving him CPR I broke brused and cracked a few ribs) I get home to find the bacement flooded due to a burned up sump pump I can't tell dad due to the stress the insurance compony won't let me file a clam since my name isn't on the policy stanly steamer is charging me $1400 so it's more like Cleveland steaming me. Oh yeah and I work for my dad while he's on the DL I get to pick up his work load

Very sorry to hear about your father. You, him, and the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

PS. Do you already have Stanley steamer doing the work? I might know someone who can give you a better deal

Hang in there brother. Kudos on the fast thinking. I have been fortunate enough to have a couple of CPR saves while off duty but never a family member. Hang in there it will get better. The insurance company will reimburse you, you have a job and most importantly you have your dad.

Be thankful you were able to respond properly. That saved his life no doubt. The rest can be resolved or replaced. Insurance will reimburse if you end up having to go out of pocket. Can you mother put in the claim so you can then handle the details? Hopefully she can. God Bless and I am praying for you. Thank you for updating us. And keep it posted how he is doing.

Sternal Rub...give yourself one!!!! Ouch! Esp. towards the base.

http://theemtspot.com/2009/11/17/test-for-unconsciousness-the-sternal-rub/

Glad your Dad is ok, everything else can be managed right now.

I assume you are a EMT or have some training by your post. Is the new method of compressions any different than 30 years ago for CPR?

As I was taught in HS (a requirement then that is no longer required!) two fingers below the sternum, two fingers on the sternum, put you other hand on the middle of the chest and that is the location you need to compress.

What was not taught in HS is the victim may vomit while giving M2M and like you stated, you can bruise/break ribs if doing compressions correctly.

I generally have Saturday afternoons and Sunday's off if you need a hand.

I just haven't taken my national registry test yet we look for the nipple line for hand placement (or on a older lady where the nipples where at one point) I also gave some Cricoid pressure as i was giving breaths with the side of my hand puke is no fun

Works out to be the same area on me.....

I had to use it once and the nurse that was doing the M2M said I did great, but it was a lost cause. Gray matter issues.

As for the girlfriend.....fuck her. She sounds like she is very self centered (from this and the thread about fixing her car) and you don't need the headache and heartache. Plenty more where she came from.

Good to hear boss. Be glad he can still manage for himself. It could have been worse. God smiled on your family this week. As for the girl friend guess times of crisis prove the sincerity of a woman's devotion, or in this case the lack thereof.

^^^ Dump her. She's self serving...Trying to be polite for the purpose of the decent women on here that deserve respect. And don't let her comee back. No woman worth her weight would not understand your absence in a crisis situation like this. Guarrantee it would be a different story if the shoe was on her hoof!

Don't go there man. That stuff is bad news. I don't care what the reason is for this side of the loony bin walls. Stay strong. I know you know this but things could really be worse. I am going through a very trying time right now as well. I have been dealing with it for 3 years. Now my wife starts having 7 day migraines. Had to come into work today with her hung over the toilet throwing up because of the pain. All tests, MRI's, scans, etc. are coming back negative. She meets wit ha headache specialist in November. I understand what it feels like to not be in control and not being able to help someone you love. Gotta trust God and except the situation dealt and hang tough regardless of the outcome.

I look at your situation and it tells me I don't have it so bad. Helps put my problems into some form of logical perspective. I hope you can find the means to do the same. Stand strong STANGBANGER! You aren't alone. The site may have gone soft but there are still those of us here who give a crap about our friends and acquaintances. I'm still praying for your father and you.

I agree, stay off the meds if you can.

BTDT, no way in hell I'll ever do that again!

You might need an ass-kicking to get your head on straight, but like Vinny said, pick up a brother and help him.

One tip: RANT!!!!!! Let those feelings flow!

Type it out on some forum, maybe post it....then go back and delete it in the morning, like Cracker did.

BUT....do NOT try to hold those feelings inside. Think of it as group therapy, type it out.

You don't have to hit submit reply...just type it out, reread it....and then just close the page.
