I came to the decision recently that I am going to part ways with my 91GT, and after getting an offer on it, I started looking around to see what else is out there for the money.
I started looking at foxes on craigslist, and some message boards to get an idea if the offer was fair. Have the prices gone up in recent months or are all the ones out there listed higher than the real selling price? It seems like all the ones out there that would be selling in the 5-6k range months ago are being listed for 7k or more, and the ones listed in the 5-6k range now are pretty ragged out.
So what are you guys seeing? Are the prices going up? Or are people just listing them too high?

A lot of people in my opinion are listing them too high I would never pay 5-6000 for a ragged out fox, they think they are made of gold that's why u see the same ones on CL for sale year round.

I just tried to sell my 90 Kenny Brown which is in pretty good condition, 17k still most of the Kenny Brown installed goodies on the car. The car has 50/50 paint at best and the main seal is leaking. It barely made to 3k on ebay the first day, there were 12 different bidders then nobody bid again.

I love the car and didn't really want to sell it anyway.

Just sold an extremely nice Fox hatch for right at 7k. The guy that picked it up came from Northwest Indiana and said that he went to look at several other cars for the same money that were junk.

With all these car shows on t.v nowadays seems everyone thinks they are sitting on gold. Personally I price everything a little high to deal with the lowballers. 3500-5000 would be the most I would give for a fox with mild mods.

It all depends on the caliber of the car to me. My car isn't ultra low mileage or heavily modified but it is one the nicer ones you will ever find , anywhere I have turned down some very respectable offers on it. For your "average" fox most are in the $3500-6000 range. Most all of those , even on the higher end will need something. The ones in the $7000-15000 range are typically low mileage or have some attribute to try justifying the price. There are also the ones that are just idiots!

Example,

Nice car , Yes
$21,000 nice foxbody? Negative. That's muscle car territory. Something that will actually always be worth the investment. You probably couldn't build that car for $21000 but you could build one hell of a car the way YOU want it for that.

I'd say that my car is very nice and I get people all the time asking me how much I'd sell it for and when they ask I usually tell them they don't have enough money. They always come back with oh i've got enough money. For some reason everyone who has a Mustang thinks theirs is the cleanest around. I look at craigs everyday even if i'm not looking to buy and I can't tell you how many are on there that they say "cleanest fox body in town" and here lately it seems as if everyone has a car that's under 50,000 miles. So yes people are asking way too much for a fairly common average fox body.

Just looking at notches recently for maybe a winter projects, and I could believe the prices on some of the cars out there. Just looking on ebay, some of the reserves are not even met in the 5-7k range. Seems silly to me. Then if you wonder over to SVTP, the nicer built single turbo notches are brings fat stacks of cash. Nuts to it, Im getting a miata.

Funny you say that. That's actually what I'm most likely buying when mine sells

Sounds like most are seeing the same things I'm seeing. Mines pretty clean, has some bolt ons and has been in my family since 95, and I'm looking at about 6-6400$. I was just shocked seeing the rusty, carb swapped Craigslist ones priced the same as mine.

$21k.....smoking crack. For that price I would expect it to at least have rust free headers.

For that price I would expect it to be a Cobra Terminator 03/04 with mild mods and under 40K on the clock.

I have thought about listing my 90 LX for sale. Its a no rust car bes built 321" basic suspension mods going on. Team Z uppers and non adjustable lowers. Its a solid 6k car. Still has ac and heat.

I get on craigslist and I'm like WTF are are these people smoking? They want top dollar for a rusted out 500 car. So I listed it on racing junk.

I have had a few guys want to trade their v6 mustang for it. Along with the usual bs.

The car is not costing me anything to sit there, So I will continue to slowly mod and race it next year.

There is definitely a lot of patched up rusted junk out there w hi price tags. An of course if it has gt40 top ends an alphabet cam in it they always say its so fast its not for kids its barely streetable. I seen one were it literally had those mods an dude said wanted trade for something more streetable lol. I'd hate see price tags on some real solid ones w actual built motors an add ons

Yea I know urs is beyond built Eddie an is worth that for sure. However if all a fox has is a cheap exhaust gear an basically explorer top end kinda deal no way for $5k+ I know minus a nice paint job I have one of the most solid coupes around my area. But that's wat will bring the price a full well built chassis zero rust an a nice built motor. An how built is dependent on if u want a 275 car like urs or something that can easily be street driven. And I will literally try to drive anything on the street its all wat ur willing to put up w. I think the price will go up as long as they get harder to come by not rusted up or ragged

welcome to the car business, every trade that comes in people think the same thing.

I had a gal the other day that was telling me how great her 170k mile Tahoe was, just put 3k in it, new tires, etc.. There was 1 new tire on the car, with 3 dry rotted tires on the other corners.

She wanted 7k for it....

I doubt many of the fox bodies listed for 7-8k are selling for anywhere near their asking prices.

I sold two fox coupes (91 & 93) within the last year, both had zero rust, nice paint, black interiors, 5 speeds, bone stock motors, and no issues. One went for $5,800 and the other $5,900. I listed them them both at $6,200.00

Was about impossible to get anybody to actually come out & look at them.

Debating about selling my 89 SSP coupe, which just sits in storage......

This is the same experience I've had selling stuff. Coupes used to bring huge money, but now not so much.
And yeah the 50k original mile cars are everywhere. I asked one guy for the vin so I could run a car fax, he refused to give it to me. lol. Most are 100 to 200k+ cars. If it's a 50k car, it'll look the part.
Some friends and I were having this conversation the other day. I doubt we will see a huge flux in the market pricing of these since the mustang craze seems to have died down a bit. I think it will be years down the road before these cars really start bringing the money. But on the other hand, what's everyone think about all the fox restoration shops springing up around the country? Is that an indicator of the direction these cars are going?
