Looking to sell my EAA witness 9mm/.22 combo for $400 and have about $300 to add to it. I really want to purchase an affordable 1911 just for target shooting. I really had my heart set on the Springfield Range Officer, but it seems like they have went up in price over the past year. I have also been looking at the Para GI Expert and Rock Island Tactical. Which 1911 would you recommend for around $700?

Ruger SR 1911. A lot of bang for the buck.

I have a Kimber and I love it but its way out of the 700 range. For the money the Ruger SR1911 is one hell of a firearm and in my opinion cant be beat at that price point. I paid $649 for mine from Old English Outfitters and it has been accurate and flawless.

I have a kimber pro carry 2 and love it. I'd get the one you really like even if I had to come up with a little extra money. If you don't, you'll wish you had later on.

I have 3 Kimbers and love em. The only other 1911 I have is a Delta Elite Gold Cup. My grandpapy always told me to buy the best I could afford and I would always be happy with it.

On a side note I've purchased two guns from BudsGunShop and have been satisfied both with their service. Both guns were hard to find and they happened to have them both. I just got my Rem 700 in 300WinMag last Tuesday from them. I looked for weeks for one and finally they put one up on Gunbroker at a really good price. Just be patient with their transfer service.

I have a Springfield loaded model and I love it but it looks like the price has really crept up since I bought mine.

Springfield, Kimber are my favorites. I recently shot a few Para 1911 and they seem ok.

I have the Para 1911 and I love it. I bought it a couple years ago for around $400 if I remember right.

the real question should be are there any 1911's to avoid? Since the design is over 100 years old I would think most of the kinks have been worked out.

I have the Citadel one, and it is nice, but does not like to feed hollowpoints. Looks like $50-80 at a gunsmith can fix it. The gun shoots nice though for a low end 1911.

Para's typically have some non standard trigger.

1911s in general dont like to feed anything but FMJ.

I got an SR1911 from Target World for $648. The only problem is finding one.

Well I ended up purchasing a Para Expert. Field and Stream had a one day special for $500 that I couldn't pass up. There are a few things I plan on changing, but overall it seems like a good buy. Even has a match grade barrel.

You can buy a lot of custom work for what you saved over some of the more expensive 1911's. I still want to get a Les Baer. Maybe one of these days when I quit buying mustang parts.

R1 here, and it takes any kind of ammo I throw at it. Cheap hollow points to personal protection ammo. It feeds it all the same. Check your mags too, some times the feed lips get can have a different angle on them not letting the ammo feed correctly. And also polish that feed ramp.
