GM overdrive swap?

A friend of mine has an S10 with a 5 speed that he wants to swap an auto into. He's thinking a turbo 350 but I seem to recall some overdrive trans that wasn't electronically controlled. Anyone have knowledge of this and or tips to make the swap work? He's doing it for his wife who is having difficulty getting in and out of her mustang and driving her truck due to the clutch.

700R4 is a non-electonic 4 speed auto trans.

700r4's has a lock up converter, if you are going to use it with out running a computer you will have to use a kit to make it work as it should. You can go to jegs or summit racing and look the kits up. One kit is TCI 376600 - TCI 200-4R / 700R4 Torque Converter Lockup Kit. The transmission will work for a little while with out the computer or kit installed but it want live long. Trust me been their done that.
