Since I'll be replacing the throw out bearing I'm going to go ahead and replace the clutch. I didn't think about it until today, but is there a way to identify what crank/ flywheel is in the car just by the block? I have a DSS shortblock so I'm not sure what year they used. I could hardly find out what pistons were in it by calling them because it was bought in 2004 and they don't keep records back that far.

Is it a 6 or 8 bolt crank? All OE forged cranks and I believe the cast cranks out of trucks are 8 bolt. Al factory 6 bolt cranks are cast.

The 6 bolt vs. 8 bolt is the determining factor. With a non-stock engine, there's no 100% way short of pulling off the trans.

That's what I was afraid of. Wasn't sure if there was a marking on the block I could look at. Wishful thinking I guess, lol. Guess it will be sitting a while after I pull it off so I can order the clutch.

Can you see if there's a place that has free return shipping? You can buy one of each, and return the one you don't need.

How much money do you think I have, lmao. We have 2 mustangs. I'll be ok. If I have to I'll run up to Jegs or something.

Jegs has a fidanza quick rev kit on clearance right now for under $600 that has clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing and flywheel

I've heard nothing but complaints from people using anything other than a Ford TOB after 5-10k miles so I already bought a FRPP tob. I was think more along the lines of a $350 Spec stage 2+ and a $35 resurface. By the time I outgrow that clutch I'll be needing a new trans anyway.

There are 8 bolt cast cranks also. The cast cranks do not have the center counterweights like the forged pieces.

That will help when I drop the pan to replace the gasket so I know what I'm working with when I have the engine built. Thanks!

lol, but I just picked up a truck too so the 95 will be up for sale soon after I get a tune thrown on her. Hate to see her go but it's just not practical right now.

I'm E3 - I have to rib him (and no, I'm not in it for money - I made $60K/yr prior to enlisting out of a desire to serve).

Before you buy a spec clutch I suggest looking at the reviews. I am about to put another replacement in after 2 specs. I'm not sure what I will buy but won't be a spec.

I have a Stage 2 right now. Most of the complaints I've heard of are the stage 3 and up. I'm still looking around.
I'd like to get a Dual Friction but not really down for spending $450 for a clutch when I'll be swapping out the trans in the next few years.

What stage do you have again? I actually prefer a heavier clutch feel.

I'm using this exact clutch. I really like that it's a full face clutch, the engagement is very smooth.
The pedal has smooth out to a stock-level clutch pressure as well.

I may have to go with that. American Muscle has them for $250
