Well I jumped back into the Mustang world again to take on a project larger than ever. I picked up an 86 lx from a good buddy and long time SBZ. I believe based on some info this car has been around for a while and in various stages.

I have always wanted a 4 eye. SO now I have one and I am sure it will be the death of me. As of right now I have alot of work just to get the car cleaned up inside and out. I want to see how nice I can make it to possibly have a nice cruise in car and then something that is pretty quick at the track too should I want to go have some fun.

I have been up in the air about doing something fairly easy with a 302 or 351w, but then I really want to do a coyote swap and been talking to a couple folks about it. I am in no hurry and will be doing this as time and money allows..aka the wife.

As the car sits now it has 95% of the interior removed although it is with the car. I want to get it all cleaned out, and see what I may need to replace since i want it to look good when complete. I want to clean up the engine bay and smooth it out. Not going to be some just getting it running project car. The goal is to have one of the nicest little street cars around. I can get extremely picky, sometimes to my detriment. I have coil overs all around, PA racing k member and a arms, 5 lug with disc all around.

Anyway, hope to meet some new folks along the way as I am going to need some assistance with several stages of this thing.

Ultimate goal is to build it with a coyote with 6 speed. I want all the creature comforts too but int he retro package.

Needs right now...
Windshield
some cheap roller wheels that hold air
fuel tank
and several items to come.

Thanks for pointing that out jesse. I actually want to make sure I set up my fuel system to accommodate for whatever engine I may go with.

Also what radiator set up does everyone like to use when doing swaps. Obviously electric fans. I'm open to suggestions for engine cooling.
Thanks guys

Some p.o.s. 14 inch steel directionals and 3 old old welds. I'd say come and get em.

This thing is 5 lug, so your wheels may not fit.

Also Nick, a direct fit radiator like an Afco is gonna be your best bet as far as fit and finish. There's another one out there I cant think of that is really good too.

Get a Contour/Taurus electric fan from a pull n pay, and that will push sufficient air. I can explain that more later because there's a little wiring involved in that.

I guess I really don't but the one tire doesn't hold air.

I would like to maybe take those off of your hand when you are done with them. They might make a good winter setup for Amy's mazda. I can put some snow tires on them. What size are they?

RX7 wheels fit Mazda 3's? thats pretty neat lol but gawd theyre ugly.

furiouslyfaster
05-23-2014, 03:55 PM
they might if they are big enough. I think on the Mazda 3's like my wife's they have to be atleast 16" I think to clear the caliper, but not sure, and those aren't that ugly.

Yeah those Mazda wheels are not that bad. When I get the brakes on I will absolutely need a larger wheel because those wheels barely fit around the rotor now.

Looking into some GTS II seats for my car, anyone have any reviews on them? Anyone have them I would like to see how they feel before I shell out the money for them. Need to get something soon too so I can get started on the cage for the car. Thanks

Got a lot of goodies for the car. Bought new GTS II seats and rail. All new maximum motorsports k member for a coyote swap with a arms and urethane bushings, rack bushings and a few other items. Maximum stuff is the real deal. Beefy and we'll built. Obviously not lightweight but for what I'm looking for it will be good. Also picked up a set of coyote swap headers and radiator and fans. Although I'm probably going to get a different set up based on some things I've been reading. Looking at using a radiator and condenser setup from a 2013ish mustang so I can have ac on the car. A buddy of mine is doing that and looks clean.

Wow, I have not said anything in here for a while. Anyway, I have the inside completely gutted, all the old sounds deadener has been removed and will be coating areas with a POR15 and then some home made lizard skin, and eventually install new sound deadening material. I"m going to modernize the fox and try to make it quiet. Been doing alot of research on material, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I also have an 04 cobra IRS installed. I ended up buying brand new shocks and MM coil overs for the IRS, I had MM coilovers on the SRA setup that I sold in order to buy stuff for the IRS. So now the car is Maximum motorsports equipped all around. From k member, a arms, cc plates, and coilovers. I have an extra IRS subframe that I plant o get powdercoated and install aftermarket bushings in then swapping all the mechanical parts over.

Currently waiting on a availability of a portable sand blaster to blast the underside before coating with POR15. Once the underside is complete, and my wife lets me I plan to send it off to paint. Hopefully soon! Will either be late fall or early spring.

My biggest concern and area of questions will be routing brake lines and fuel lines. If anyone has input on running new brake lines as well as a fuel line setup I would appreciate it. I am debating just buying a complete fuel kit from Glenns Performance or Aeromotive and going with that. However those kit prices are expensive. When I could probably piece together something much more economical. I do not want a sumped tank, Im trying to get an inexpensive cobra tank since it has all the handy baffles. From there I want to run lines as clean and safe as possible. Also when it comes to running brake lines, I am not sure what I need as far as a biasing valve or if I should attempt to have ABS, I am leaning against it since it adds complexity, but if I could do that relatively easily and inexpensively, I would not be opposed.

how did you remove the sound deadening material? I am getting ready to remove that myself and I have heard a lot of ways and everybody says their way works and the others make a mess...

2 step process. I used a torch and putty knife. Once I got the majority of it out the little bits left I took a wire cup brush attached to a grinder and got the rest out. Made it very clean. Depending on how picky you are.
