I say you lobby the government to force people to change their terminology regarding tea. They are good at fixing things most everyone gives no shit about.

Also I just Googled "meaning of unsweetened" and it says "without sugar or a similar substance having been added"
So therein your argument is wrong. I could order unsweetened water if they offered sweetened water.
I order it always as "unsweet tea" because if I order "tea" or "plain tea" they ask if I want sweetened, every fucking time. Ten years ago, this wasn't a problem unless you were in the south as there was no "sweet tea" at most non Cracker Barrel restaurants. Now everyone has that syrupy tasting garbage, and I have to specify I don't want it

Most of that "sweet tea" is just HFCS....not cane sugar....HFCS is like crack cocaine. Look around at Obese America, Fat Mexico, UK's Battle of the Bulge II.
Since HFCS and highly processed CHEAP foods, the world has gotten fat.
Myself I've dropped 30 lbs before I stared exercising just by changing the foods, not the amount.

look at the prefix UN
a prefix freely used in English to form verbs expressing a reversal of some action or state, or removal, deprivation, release, etc. ( unbend; uncork; unfasten , etc.), or to intensify the force of a verb already having such a meaning ( unloose ).
Compare un-1 .
Origin:
Middle English, Old English un-, on-; cognate with Gothic and-, Dutch ont-, German ent-; akin to Latin ante, Greek antÃ*; cf. ante-, anti-
