Probably not too many people on here can remember the days of Saturday morning cartoons. The days when you woke up at 6:00am as a kid, the ony day you wanted to wake up at 6:00am as a kid so you could watch every last moment of Saturday morning cartoons. Scooby Doo, Speed Buggy, Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch, Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Popeye, Laugh Olympics, Dick Dasterdly, Bull Winkle and Rocky, The Flintstones, Hong Kong Fewey, and the list of animated cartoons goes on and on and on. It was a great time. Get out of bed, turn the TV on so it would warm up, find a HUGE bowl, fill it with Frosted Flakes topped of with ice cold Milk and plop in front of the Ty only to get up to change channels (we never had a remote). Even into my Senior year in high school and beyond (to be honest) I would seldom miss watching The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour that started at 9:00 O'clock every Saturday morning. Now what do we have on Saturday mornings? News, news, news, news and then some stupid crap that's on for about 1 hour and then more news.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED? I know I'm getting older but I never thought Saturday morning cartoons would become extinct. I expected change, but never dreamed we would find Saturday mornings overwhelmed with media news hype and infomercials trying to sell you a vacuum cleaner that runs on batteries. Everywhere you look news, news, news. I like to be informed like the next person, but good grief a little clean animated humor goes for a nice change once in a while.

Here ends the rant. Sorry. It's raining (or was) and I am waiting for the streets to dry so I can head up to New Castle Indiana to see Leroy a fellow SBZ member for the afternoon and I had time to reflect to my wonder years. LOL!

Didn't they take most of the old cartoons off because of violence? I was always the first person up, used to piss everyone else off. Now cartoons are on everyday all day.

Hell I bought my son $200 worth of Warner Brothers cartoons so I didn't have to watch the dumb shit on TV these days. Very sad. Growing up in the 80s had much better stuff. Cowboy Bob and Pee Wee Herman........

Yes in the late 80's there was a push by some mamby pamby group that forced editing of so called violent scenes from many cartoons based on slap stick humor. Here is a partial of an essay on the topic that destroyed good clean humor. https://www.collegetermpapers.com/viewpaper/1304060372.html

Brian I don't blame you for not letting your kids watch the crap for kids on TV today. I'd love to see ME TV bring back Saturday morning cartoons again. That would be awesome.

One I liked that came out in the mid to late 90's was a well done animated series called REBOOT. It was actually pretty cool. But they p[ulled that as well. Heck even my wife liked it and she is by no means a techno geek.

Wouldn't that be nice! I still catch some of the old cartoons but the kids won't watch those. Too much family guy and adult swim that they hear about.

What happened...CABLE...it killed the cartoons we loved. You have several cable channels dedicated to just "cartoons" or kids programming. Of course today's cartoons suck and have way too much violence and sexual innuendos compared to the cartoons of the 80's. On the plus side a lot of our kick ass cartoons are being turned into movies.

^^^ Who Framed Roger Rabbit was good. I've not cared for any others since with regard to the oldies. Comic book hero's turned cartoons now turning movies have some good ones. Iron Man being my favorite. The first Transformers (though that was out after I was older) movie was good as well IMO. And thinking about it I agree cable had some to do with it. The cartoon network used to run the old warner brothers cartoon shorts but its hard to find them these days. As for Adult Swim, Family guy, South Park and others of that genre we don't watch those even as adults. The Simpsons once in a blue moon. The only other series I watched of the adult type that came later was Ren and Stempy. Gross but funny. But like others I have mentioned not a cartoon I would want my kids to watch. As for the oldies however it was the art involved and the detail that made them as good to watch as the humor in them. There is a ton of WWII reference in so many of them because they were created during that time. I loved those Warner Bro cartoons as a kid and still do. And as I have gotten older I still watch them and once in a while say "So that is what they mean by that.", after hearing and seeing the cartoon 1000 times.

Guess during a nostalgic moment of wishing for some lighter hearted entertainment I digressed. It's easier as you get older to say "I remember when..." especially when you know you have more years behind you than in front of you. I'm just turning into that middle aged guy...BUT I'LL NEVER OWN A CORVETTE I GIVE MY WORD ON THAT! LOL!

If you guys are talking 80s cartoons I'm way ahead of that. My daughter is now 17 so I rarely watch any cartoons anymore with her. There were a few good ones, I like SpongeBob before they sold out, Fosters, Two Stupid Dogs, Cat and Dog.

No. I'm talking the classics. Pre 1980. Tex Avery productions, Hanna Barberra, Fred Quimby, and Chuck Jones productions. And others of that era up through about 1979.

Torrents....

My grandfather used to love T&J, where I learned to watch it. Watch some of the old episodes this morning with MY grandson.

The white mouse......."Don't you believe him!"

^^^ That was a great one. I like the one where Tom and Jerry are having a war with fire works. Those were great cartoons done by Fred Quimby. He also did Screwy Squirrel and Barney Bear.

I'm with you on the Saturday morning cartoons. They suck these days, everything you mentioned were the ones I grew up on, there's a cable channel that's up there pretty high that plays a lot of the old ones but I couldn't tell you the channel.
I noticed something I think is kind of disturbing. Have you noticed how many of the cartoons these days always make references to witches, demons and spirits? Back in the day, Scooby might run into a ghost or a monster that always turned out to be someone dressed up. I was flipping channels one day and I shit you not, there was 3-4 back to back that mentioned demons... That's really screwed up to me.

Not surprised. They have been producing crap like that for adults to watch for years now.
