I am in need of a running 302, looking for a stock one from a Mustang, factory roller and forged internals, as cheap as possible. Looking for 86-92. 937-527-8142, Daytime hours.

Just FYI incase you did not know...some later '92 motors came with hypereutectic pistons.

And 86 had flat top pistons with no valve reliefs.

Dang it, no 86 then either LOL. The plan is to throw some boost at it so flat tops are not going to work.

An explorer engine with hypereutectic pistons can handle boost. They just aren't as forgiving as forged. It's all in the tune. If you detonate either one, you will have problems.

I would take an exploer engine also, just didn't know what years had the 302, detonation can kill any motor forged or not. I am not looking to make 1,000 hp with it either just want something that will handle the boost for a little while, while I build something that will make some power.

It will be easier to find a low mileage explorer engine. Look for 1996-2001 Explorers and Mountaineers. A safe tune, 8 to 10#s, keep it in the mid 400 hp range, and it will live a long time.

1996 explorer 5.0 should have standard gt-40 heads. The gt-40p heads didn't start until 1997.

I guess it is a 97, the heads have 4 bars and say gt40p on them.
