I don't know what kind of paint you used but SEM trim black is awesome for black exterior trim it lays down smooth and looks factory.

You're right, the SEM paint goes on like butter. The 85 Capri has a charcoal colored trim so after doing a little research, I found that people were using SEM Medium Smoke to match the trim on these. It doesn't look charcoal in this picture but it was in fact a very good match.

Normally I would have pulled all the trim to paint it but there is enough of a gap that it was easy enough to paint it on the car. I didn't want to have to worry about breaking clips or anything like that. To prep it, I used some dawn dish soap to clean it, using a detail brush to get into the cracks and a red scotchbrite pad to scuff it up a little. Then I wiped it down with some alcohol and sprayed it.

So impressed with the pic I went and got 2 cans of this stuff. Doubt I can lay it on as well as he did but I'm sure gonna try.
Looks killer, again thanks for the info

That paint lays down without much effort I have used this to restore trim on alot of cars

I've used SEM paints quite a few times, their interior paints are awesome too.

Are you clear coating any of that? If so, Spraymax 2K clear is the best stuff I've ever used in a can. It has a hardener you release into the can after shaking it up. It's the closest to a professional paint job that you can get in a can.

Shit works amazing. $20 a can tho.

Yea, it's not cheap. Anything I'm clearing on a car is typically worth the expense though.

Thanks for the info... I did not clear it, it was an acrylic enamel the paint shop mixed up and put in a can for me. It wasn't really meant to be a permanent fix. I really just wanted to get rid of the rust before it went through the fender. $20 a can doesn't sound too bad right now considering that's about what I've been paying for the trim paints and the custom mix was $46.

On second thought, I'm wondering if I should clear the lower trim. These cars came with single stage paint but clearing the trim may keep it looking nice for a lot longer.

I wouldn't clear the trim black it holds up really well in the weather we did every piece of trim including the quarter window mouldings and mirrors on my buddy's hatch and it's been sitting outside for 7 years and it still looks as good no as it did when it was applied and that's the same paint they use on school bus hoods and any semi gloss trim that is on them
