My Buddy video taped my Volvo down at the track last Friday. I found this video pretty comical. Anyway the Volvo has new Camshaft in it since then and I'm slowly turning up the boost on the new turbo. Right now I'm at 16 psi looking to get the car running 20+ psi.

It was my first pass of the night. My buddy said the guys in the crowd were saying the car wouldn't lay rubber before I did that Smokey burn out. I think you can hear one of them say that on the video. I got a lot questions after and showed people that it was just an old Volvo motor with some junkyard and ebay boost parts. I'm still trying to get it sorted out. The vette should of got me but something like this happened before when the car was much slower. Some guy raced me with his 57 Chevy and kept getting on and off the gas down the track to show he didn't have to try to beat me. He ended up passing me at the last part of the track. This guy in the Vette never made up for his horrible 1.9 second 60ft. Not sure if that was intentional to get footage of him passing me half way down the track with all his mounted gopros or he was looking over confused what he was running against and didn't pay attention to the light, haha. I'm sure he's not going to post that video.

What trans is in that? I'm a big fan of the gold brick, those guys in alabama I think it is, where they have it running low 10s, maybe high 9s.

It's a 1988 Volvo 740 Turbo AW71 with a accumulator mod. Pretty much I stuck cut down bolts from home depot and it eliminates the slow shift response and reduces slipping between gears shifts.

That Volvo makes me happy! That thing is both a nod to hot rodders from way back who modded what they had, and a big F U to convention!

That is bad ass. How fast is it now? Any plans to make it faster?

I actually made it faster over the weekend. I put a higher lift and duration cam in over the weekend and an adjustable cam gear. Plus I added 2lbs of boost. That day I couldn't build much brake boost off the line with the new turbo in the video. I'm hoping what I did solves the issue. The car runs low 14s right now. Hoping for 13s this year.

Cool and fun! I thought about doing something like this with my daily driven C70 2.3l Turbo car.
Factory specs show 236HP & 244lb ft of torque.

I used newer Volvo parts like yours for the build. My turbo is a direct bolt on to your turbine side. Volvo has been using the same turbo flange for years. They keep getting better with thier turbo and turbine selections. My car stock puts down around 90 whp. I'm sure it's probably over 200 now.

I crack up when I watch it too. I showed some people at work and they got a kick out of it.

One of my coworkers in the shop was there that night I just found out. Was talking about it and he started telling me about how everyone was shell shocked after you did your burnout. Said it was great being there in the stands with all the chatter afterwards.

I'm glad it added entertainment. It's whats it's about anyway. I'm having fun and it's been a good learning experience.
