It got better as the day went on. The tune in it was so off that the car didn’t want to go. Changed up a few things and off it went. I can’t wait to get this car dialed in right. It was just enjoyable driving the car again.Quote:

I decided to dump the wastegate into the exhaust. It’s so hard to weld a thin heat cycled piece of 409 to 304 with a stick welder. It’s easy to weld 16ga or larger metal though. I think it turned out pretty good after fighting with it.

Finally got to give the car some gas and it wasn’t showing any boost. I found some boost leaks yesterday. It was leaking heavily around the back of the intake and around the a lot of the vacuum port points. That’s all fixed now except for the brake booster port which I should have fixed tomorrow.

I can hear the turbo start to spin above 4000 rpm but it’s not making any boost. Maybe the tune? The turbo is getting oil and wastegate is functioning. I got the boost leaks fixed.Quote:

Still having boost issues. Found that I’m having leaking issues. Using water, soap and a shop vac to find my leaks. Sealed up one of three pipes before the turbo today. Also purchased a more forgiving exhaust manifold gasket and vband seals.

Got some slit wire loom for Christmas. Cleaned up the engine bay this morning.
I been hunting for my boost leak and I can hear it under the intake manifold. I found I can buy a new GM one for 120 dollars with all the gaskets and seals so I did that. I installed the map sensor and air sensor this morning by increasing the hole opening size to accommodate them. I also decided to get a bigger intercooler while I’m at it. After I get the boost issue resolved I’ll install it in place of the current one.

Didn’t fix it. Not 100% sure where I’m loosing the pressure. I have some exhaust plates on their way to block off the heads output. I don’t remembered having these issues boost testing 4 cylinder cars. Not sure if I need to clock the motor a certain way.

Did you make sure the fire cone was installed on the wastegate seat when you installed it to the flange?
It’s on there. I even covered the exhaust port during pressure testing and it didn’t affect the pressure shown on the two gauges I have. There is a slight amount of air escaping.Quote:

The rear is home. I removed the brakes and I was able to get it to rotate freely. Ordered a shorter axle, brakes and rotors for it.
Hard to beat the ole 8.8. Everyone uses the explorer rear ends. I have one here for the S10 me and the boy are going to build later.
Gotta watch out for rusted axles tubes over the passenger side where they put a sticker. Seen a few rusted completely through now. Right by the leaf spring U bolt.

In the last year I have been fighting with my boost issues to recently find out my intercooler was choking in the motor. The car is making the boost I want finally. Now to move onto bigger brakes and the 8.8.
