I can put something to gether for you if you like. My dad and I have a computer business together and I'm sure we can find something that will fit the bill. I'll shoot you through a PM tomorrow on it.

If these other guys can't put one together I can.

I built my uncle a 2800+ system for ~$400 last month. My wife's 2600+ was ~$480, two years ago....

What do you want to do with the system? (Games, word processing, email...)
Do you have a keyboard, mouse, monitor?
Do you have a preference on AMD or Intel?

For reference, my last video card cost me ~$400. Just so I could play a few new games.

I agree with Black. The mac is a kick ass computer. I am just glad my wife has finally seen the light. Too bad we just built a PC for her. If you you are interested I would be willing to sell her PC pretty cheap minus the hard drive.

You could put one together yourself, it's a bit like workin on a car. It's easy enough and surely someone would be willing to help you pick up the right parts, would be cheaper than paying someone to build you one. I would even help ya out on the part selections, even pointers on putting it together. If you like I can work you up a best deal scenario on the price range you're looking at.

If you're going for a mac, the mini is cool for what it is, and the price is right. But I wouldn't touch a mac....

It really depends on what you want to use it for. $500.00 wont go far for a gaming rig.

512mb will barely run Vista. 1+ GB RAM is suggested.

    Where is the NIC/Ethernet?

He'll have to spend another 100 for more ram and 5-35 for an ethernet card or wireless.

I honestly don't go to Walmart for anything other than TP and underwear.

I would avoid e-machines like the plague and the other one is refurbished... The biggest thing is you get what you pay for. We use genuine Intel boards, lifetime warranty memory, seagate hard drives(5 year warranty), high quality power supplies and genuine Microsoft software and our PCs last

Just an FYI...I have bought hardware from pricewatch vendors for years. Also, the best software vendor I ever used was viosoftware. Links are below.

$500 will get you a really decent system. DOnt be afraid of Wal-Mart..they realy do sell the best bang for the buck, unless someone sell you used shit cheaper than they got it.

I am leaving town on a contract in two days or I'd hook ya up myself. You can email me anytime, and I can give you honest info/comparison's, and answer any questions you have. I am NOT here to sell ya anything...I build encrypted networks for a living...18 years in this industry...so, if I can help, just let me know.
