Trying to figure out what gears...

I have in my 88 mustang Gt It seems as if it is geared high (55mph sitting around 1700 or so. I want to daily it so maybe I should swap in some 3.73's?

Also what is the next step up from a 3.73?

    Thank you in advance.

Jack it up and mark the tire and the driveshaft. Count how many turns the shaft makes to complete one turn of the tires. 3 1/2 turns =3.55 gears, 3 3/4 turns =3.73. 4 turns is a 4.10 and 4 1/4 is 4.30s.

That is a link to a rpm/speed calculator...just have to know your tire height and trans gear ratio (in a t5 isn't 5th .8?).

How do you figure out what gear ratio you have when you don't have any axles? :p
