I’m going to have to clean the rest with a dremel tool but I’m ok with where it’s at now.

Little sentimental, today was my last voyage with the Redblock motor. This will be the first time since I was born not to have a red block powered car in the family. I wish my dad was still around when the old redblock engine pushed the brick into the 12s. He was an old Mopar, Mg and 70-80s Volvo mechanic. He ran a 13 second 318 Plymouth back in the 60s and Volvo motors were just reliable and slow transportation to him. He was utterly surprised it went 14.0 before he passed. I’ll start pulling the motor out this upcoming week.

That little motor was sure impressive! Im sure he would be just as shocked as the rest of us are with how it ran. 12's will be a breeze next year on motor alone.

It wasn’t too bad for what it was. I’m sure if I changed the rods and the transmission out I could pushed it a bit harder. I’ve had upped the boost and rpm before and the car was quicker that way. Problem is the Aw72 transmission in it doesn’t like being pushed as hard as I was pushing it and I didn’t trust pushing the stock rods much further. The day I ran a 12 I would add a 1psi boost and drop about a tenth of a second. Started at 20 psi and ended at 27. Called it a day when it went 12.9.

I spent couple hours on the car tonight. Removed the antifreeze, power steering fluid, unbolted the torque converter, disconnected fuel lines and removed some turbo piping. I’ll probably pull the motor Thursday night. The 90 dollar T3/4 turbo is still in great shape after two years of up to 35psi of boost.

Pulled the motor with wire harness today. Looks like you can hook it as a stand alone unit.

I would work on it until it’s finished if I could. I’ll probably start cleaning the engine bay Monday night and figure out what to do with AC. I’m going to remove it. I’m still unsure if I should try to mount the transmission or motor first. I’m going to have to hammer the transmission tunnel to make the 4l80e fit. Just not sure where yet.

I pulled out the AC unit this morning. I had to bend couple things to get the condenser out of the way. I’m pretty sure the dealership when they reinstalled the plate above it spot welded it on after a minor accident where my buddy back into my grill when we were in high school and bent it. I couldn’t pry the thing off without breaking random spot welds. Not sure why because photos I’ve seen on other Volvo’s it unbolts.

Cleaned engine compartment and checked transmission clearance tonight. This weekend I’m planning on making some clearance.

From the looks of it, I thought it would be a lot tighter.

There is more room than I thought but I still need to route the cooler lines and it looks pretty tight where they need to go. I need to buy a bigger hammer since one I have is barely making a dent.

Yeah, I removed one of the two transmissions coolers. I’m keeping the one with the 10” fan on it in the front tuck under the front bumper.

I got the tunnel hammered and cleaned and painted the scratches I made. Tomorrow I’ll start putting the motor in.

    Engineers hammer!!!!! Love it!

Plenty of room now? Crazy how much bigger it is than the old one.

I got TCI shifter on its way. The truck style shifter points down and so does the tci so that will fix the rest of my clearance issues I believe. This one points up and doesn’t clear even after hammering. Maybe because it’s out of a Van??

I was cracking myself up when I bought that hammer. Needed the right Engineer to figure out my clearance issue! Haha!
