Looking for references for spinal surgery...

If you've seen me walk in the past few years you may notice I developed a limp on the left leg. Being born pigeon toed and being in leg braces from age 3 to age 8, I just figured getting older was causing what was incorrectable without leg surgery was just becoming more defined with age. When I started having some numbness in the lower leg recently I decided to get it checked out. Went to some guy who shocked the daylights out of my legs and then poked them with needles to test my nerves. Turns out I apparently have pressure on Nerve L5 according to the test results. So the next step is an MRI to determine where and how the pressure is being generated on that nerve. My PCP says I will likely have to undergo some form of back surgery.

As I recall several on here have been down this road. So I was hoping I could get the names of the specialist used and how successful the procedure was. Any post surgery experience shared would also be helpful. Thanks.

In the end I hope to be able to drive a manual shift car again. Would like to be back in a manual so I can enjoy rolling through the gears again though I do not plan any returns to the track other than to be a member of the peanut gallery.

sorry to hear about that. I hope you find some relief and get better. I mean a MVB auto is almost like a manual - just saying.

No pain to speak of just immobility and occasional numbness. Thanks. Was thinking Aaron had had some back surgery but cant remember if it was back or neck or what. Hopefully he will sign in and see this. I trust my PCP but it never hurts to get names to drop when discussing who to go with when the diagnostics takes place. Who knows? May just end up being I need to go to a witch doctor for some back stretching sessions but I am suspect its more than that. Could always be worse....could have been early MS or diabetes or a major blood clot...or cancer. Just thankful its nerve related at this point. The MRI will tell the full story in a few weeks.

As for a manual valve body auto in a street car? Uh like NAH. I'll leave that for cars that spend most of their lives on trailers. LOL!

Chad sorry you have to go through this. Best of luck to you getting your back corrected and being able to row through some gears again.

Cool. Thanks Aaron. I will keep those names in mind when seeking a referral.

Thanks Joe. Just want to get it behind me and have a decent outcome. If it weren't for tripping over my left toe from dragging it about every 10-15 steps while walking I'd leave it alone. Tired of tripping over myself while walking on a waxed floor at Target like some 95 year old man in need of a walker. I don't have any pain aside from a dull pain the develops from standing in one place for a long period. If I get moving that mostly goes away.

Sorry to hear. I had noticed a change over the years I've known you, but didn't realize it was a recent development. Hopefully it's a straightforward procedure and you get back to normal quickly.

Thanks. If the issue is that serious to require surgery I will consider him. Appreciate it.

LOL! I doubt it but as the old little Johnny joke goes...."I like the way you're thinking".

    Speaking of which.......

The teacher calls on Little Johnny in class. "Johnny if you looked out the window and see 10 birds sitting on the telephone wire and you shoot 4 of them with your b.b. gun how many would be left?" Little johnny thought for a moment and replied, "None. the others would fly off scared". The teacher said, "no there would be 6 remaining Johnny but I like the way you're thinking".

So Johnny says, "Teacher you are in the park. You see two women sitting on a park bench eating ice cream cones. One is licking her ice cream cone the other is biting her ice cream cone. How can you tell which one is married"? The teacher hesitantly says, "Would she be the one licking her ice cream cone"? Johnny says, NO SILLY! She's the one wearing a wedding band. BUT I LIKE THE WAY YOU'RE THINKING!"
