I'm not afraid that it will be copied.......no one else is dumb enough to do what I did.

My God, I am wooped!
I spent over 12 hours straight in that gayrage today. I have my doors looking horrible. both molding off, I had to use a long flat chissle and a hammer. They were on there goood! I found a little bit of rust on the bottom seams of both door skins, all light to medium surface rust. I cut out about a foot and a half section and grinded all the rust out. Now I have to weld the section of metal back in tomorrow. We finally got our big 80 gallon air compressor wired and plumbed and I fired up my new Harbor Freight $16 special DA sander. It makes short work of removing the paint from them doors with 80 grit.![]()
Im hoping to have both doors ready for a little glaze and primer by tomorrow night. Then on to the fenders.
There is a lot more work and manual labor in this than I thought, but Im enjoying it. Jus me and my car, spending quality time together.![]()
Big thanks to Chuck Carter for stopping out with his buddy Rob. Rob showed me about 100 things in a single hour. Im just trying to keep it all in my head.![]()

If you bent your side molding all you need to do is take a heatgun and heat the metal strips that the double sided tape is stuck to and pull them off the molding. Then you are good to go as they will be very flexable after that.

hey matt, you probably have this covered but throw some flex in your primer when you get to the plastic parts via: bumpers, ground effects kit (if you have one) moldings and such ... that way your paint doesnt spider or flake off in 3 months ... dont be afraid to use some self tapping metal screws (something short) to get your moldings back on ... use some heat (to get your moldings flat) and counter sink the screws, then mud over top of them until your flat ... this will get you straight as an arrow, like a factory look ... i painted a few cars that came out decent, i do have some input if you need it ... painting is easy, a kid can throw on the color ... clear is tricky - just a couple of light coats with clear, when you make it that far (proper flash - gun pressure) ... or you will have orange peal out the ass and lots of wet sanding ... your paint job will only be as good as your prep work ... what you're doing sucks balls, *sanding* lol ... but it saves you a ton of money $$$$ and you gain a wealth of knowledge ... good luck![]()

where the pics at???
There is some on the top of the first page![]()
should I paint the moldings and doors seperate then put them on, or put them back on and get them straight and paint it all together?
I bought the expensive flexier clear coat, but I didnt get any flex additive. I'll hafta look into that. I definatly dont want paint falling off. I dont think HOK makes a flex additive. I wonder if it would be safe to add something like that to their paint?

i would paint the moldings once you have them on the door *prime the door first (of course)* ... it will make for a cleaner look ... i think the flex needs to be from the primer on up ... your base is the primer, so if that spiders or flakes - there goes your paint ... get with the people you have been talking to and see what they think ... i have only used dupont ... it came out nice, but i put on about 4 heavy coats of clear - now i know NOT to do that ... keep the clear thin, these chemicals made today are the shit: no need to lay it on an inch thick like me ... lol ... get with chris (plated) he should have some really good tips, being he does it everyday ...
definetly use some flex addative with all the lower ground effectspaint the car then spray all you uerethane body peices, mouldings.and bumpers seperate on stands with some flex, but don't use it on the whole car.i seen you called,i been trying to finish up this other car in the garage this week, but this weekend or next week i can come out and lend a hand and some advice.don't be skeeerd sand it

I can not say enough good things about my man Rob Lewis at Rigid Race Cars! On top of being one of the best welders I have seen, and one of the friendliest guys on the board, but he will bend over backwards to make sure his customers are happy. No really, I got him to bend over backwards in the shop tonight, it was impressive.Seriously though, he made sure my safety equipment was exactly how I wanted it. He didnt stop welding till I was comfortable with the way everything worked. Thanks Rob, your my hero!

Here are some pics of the minor surface rust I took care of on the bottoms of my doors.cut a small patch out of both doors, grinded all the cancer out and welded them back in. After a coat of etching primer, I'll add a bead of seam sealer and a little mud to smooth everything out and you'll never know it was there!
