    First race at the track...

Well I experienced my very first, as well as the 'stang's first, drag race today at Kil-Kare. I'm definitely new to launching the car but it went pretty well despite the crappy Goodyears and 2.73 gear. I 1-2 powershifted and 2-3 lift-shift both runs. My goal was a 14.8 and my first run was 14.99. (not sure about mph bc I got the wrong ticket!). I was happy to atleast get into the 14s my first time. The second run went MUCH better, 14.52 @ 98.3... '92 GT: BBK CAI, shortys with o/r X and 2.5" flows dumped, 13* timing 93octane, RAM HDX, Tri-Ax short throw, 180* thermostat, 2.73 5spd, full weight w/ stock 225 goodyears and leaking intake gasket...I'd consider this a "mostly stock" mustang so a 14.52 isn't too shaby for a newb, eh? haha

BTW: I was the one w/ the red GT with the white ponies today if anyone saw me. If anyone has a white #96 time slip let me know. I love seeing a ton of foxbodys and 'stangs at Kil-Kare, it was a blast! I am definitely addicted now!

Congrats. Makes me think back to my first time. Mid 14's is pretty good. Keep practicing. Your mph is showing high 13 second potential.

Yep...98mph is definatly good for 13's. Way back in '99 when my coupe was still pretty much bone stock I got it to go a 13.69 at 99 with the stock 2.73 gears. Went threw the traps in 3rd. Had a set of the old bfg 235/60/15 dr's, short belt, and a k&n filter. Man...some times I miss those days..racing was alot simpler.

Thanks for the words of encouragement fellas, sounds like you all have some great stories! I'd love to get her in the 13s! Like you said, once i get my launch down (2.44 60ft yesterday) I believe it has the potential for 13s how it sits now. Has anyone tried a 2 step set up around 2k rpm? Seems like it'd be more consistent and be easier to launch/feather the clutch with one...

98mph is good for 13's? That's depressing..... I've pulled 2.0 60' times in my '94 GT which is just sightly modified (exhaust/gears/injectors&maf) and I've only gotten a best of 14.3 @ 97mph w/ Drag radials..... dang.
