Hey everyone,
Just taken new ownership of Craig Newport's coupe, I have many plans for this. To start I am building a Dart blocked 434W, trying to decide to run my built Powerglide or put a TKO 600 in it, what does everyone else think? I know to bracket race it the Powerglide would be the obvious choice, but I really like the idea of the UMTR class. Do not have any pictures of my own yet, I am sure many of you have seen the pictures of his post when it was put up for sale, I will post pictures as I go. Open to suggestions and or comments.

Any power adders? Build it to the classes thats affordable for you and what you'd like to run and whether or not you want it streetable or not...that's my advice...Good luck with the build!

I have the oppertunity to purchase a TKO 600. It has the blow proof bellhousing, Billet fly wheel, spec stage 3 clutch, and a Steeda billet shifter. I am parting out my big block car to pay for this build. The coupe has all Strange Engineering suspension w/ Wilwood disc brakes all the way around. Need to get a rollcage put in it and have it painted.

Good luck with the build. Big inch windsor with a stick sounds pretty cool. I was hoping it might get built into a 8.5" tire car.

It still could, I have also been debating a TH400 in it versus the other tranny.
What do you guys think?

It has been a slow start w/ this but I have just acquired a cowl hood for it, not much room in the garage with the other car and engines sitting around. Really need to sell my big block and other roller to fund this new project. I do appreciate all the comments and will be working on this more often. I will post some photos later on today, not going to be the best looking car at this time but it will be a starting point and show progress as I work on it. I have my Powerglide and I have just acquired a Tremec 5-speed and Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads as well. Time will tell how everything works w/ that 434W Dart motor.

Latest update, working on getting the Stang over to Rob to install the Chromoly roll cage. I am working w/ him on picking it up and can't wait to get the cage in the car to start working on the other body components left to be finished and get it painted.

Not sure if I want to paint the car one solid color or add some character to it, Craig gave me some nice paint (House of Kolor Sunset Pearl).

If anybody has any paint schemes let me know or post it on here for me to see.

Here are a few photos of the car rolling on its own. If you haven't noticed the factory door handles have been replaced by another set, anybody able to figure out what they are from? Also notice the relocation of the fuel fill cap?

That is correct, what a great concept on a Stang. I guess the idea is to slim line it and to make it more aerodynamic.

Thanks, It has Strange adjustable coil overs all the way around using the stock upper and lower torque box locations for the control arms. I do not have any photos of the mini tub install at this time, I can take some photos in about a week or so. The coupe left last night for the chromoly roll cage to be installed.

I used to love the way a full tubed car looked. Now with owning this mini tubed coupe I don't think I will ever want anything than a mini tubed car. They look so streetable and bad ass and the stance on this car is so gorgeous. I just have to add that I am in love with my car, I will be even more in love with it once the cage is in it. Tha plan now is for Rob to go ahead and install the anti-roll bar and to mock up the engine and trans combination as well, Cha-Ching.

I do believe he does.

Define mini-tub...This Coupe has rear control arms in the stock location on the body and modified rear frame rails. The rear tubs were modified to retain the back seat. A FULL tub would be aftermarket rear suspension with aftermarket frame rails, no back seat etc etc:bigthumb

What all was done to the rear frame rails? Are they just notched? Either way it looks mean as hell!

Thanks Craig for helping me out w/ that. I did not believe that it was a full tub myself but I guess it depends on who wants to think what.

Where the rails bend up and start towards the rear, Rob removed that section and made new rails to support the one off Alum fuel tank.

I ran into a few different scenarios of what the engine was going to finally finish at but now I know for sure. Just thought you would like to know. I hope I am able to even think about this car even running next year, maybe 2013 we can line them up but until then I will watch you run your toy.

I am going to drop the alminum fuel tank tonight and get some photos of the rear end with the anti-roll bar installed. I am also going to sump the fuel tank and install fittings for the fuel pump and return lines on it. I will need to fab a block off plate for the top of the tank where the original FORE Cobra fuel hat was going to be, it was going to be a fuel injected car and I am going carbed. Then I will start working on getting the front suspension squared up to mount the brake master cylinder and brake lines front and rear, I will tie in the line lock w/ a proportioning valve during this process as well.

I also forgot to mention that Rob does alot of custom fabbed exhaust and tubing work for turbos, superchargers and etc. Check out Rogue Race Cars in Williamsburg on there new Facebook account. Rob, you need to get all the photos of this car on there.

I will need to fab a block off plate for the top of the tank where the original FORE Cobra fuel hat was going to be, it was going to be a fuel injected car and I am going carbed.

Bring me that tank and i can do it for ya :bigthumb

Here are a few photos I took tonight. First is the rear end w/ the anti-roll bar and Strange coil overs, then the 9" housing ends attached to the Wilwood solid disc brakes, then the FORE rear diff cover and the rear wheel tucked nice and neat on the rear. The car at the highest point sits about 6 inches. Man this thing is going to be down and dirty. I have more photos to post, I am going to try to get them p tonight but if not I will tomorrow. My daughter right now is wanting all my attention and it makes it difficult to get her to stop using the scroll function on the mouse.

I am going to still go w/ the big cubic inch small block set up for NOS and run the PG, lots of compression. I still want to try to run in the 8.5 class, it's 8th mile so I want to make as much power as soon possible. I know the challenge is going to get it to the pavement and go straight. I am hoping w/ the glide I can get out of the hole a little more gentle than the 3 speed guys, I guess time will tell.

looks good. What are the size of the rear tires? do you know how much they will "grow"? I only ask because in the pic they sure look close to the body down low(front to back). A buddy of mine just did a 427 windsor with air flow research 225 heads that is carbed and set up for nitrous and the motor dyno'ed at 690 hp @6700rpm. and he still has the nitrous to throw on it. Might want to check out bullet racing cams when you are ready for your cam. have you decided on which intake and carb yet?

Super Victor intake and still undecided on the carb. I am trying to get 1000hp. The rear tires currently are 28 x 10.5 x 15 and the rear suspension may need some rework to accommodate them but I want to set this up to run the 8.5 class so that will give me some added room.

Traded my 9" Fox Body rear end for a JW Performance SFI Powerglide trans and an 8" PTC converter. I just had the trans gone through w/ the clutches and some bushings replaced. Trans has the forward pattern manual valve body and trans brake ready to go. Converter is being sent back to PTC to be rebuilt to my engine and race specs. I wasn't sure about the trade to start w/ but it seems that I really came out ahead on this deal, one for me. Trans came w/ a BB Chevy bell housing but luckily I already had the JW Ultra Bell bell housing to fit the Powerglide to my SBF so I have the BB Chevy bell housing to sell. I have been able to sell parts off of my other chassis to help support the build of this one. I am currently on stand by on ordering my pistons until I confirm the cc of the combustion chambers on my current cylinder heads, so until then I will focus on stripping the other car, thanks everyone.

Another change has taken place, I have confirmed the cc of the combustion chambers on my existing Victor Jr's as 60cc but have decided to upgrade to a better head for the 8.5 class I want to run. So I am putting my Victor Jr's up for sale, if interested let me know. So I have changed transmissions, cylinder heads and how much I was going to spend on this. Man I sure hope I don't have to keep changing my mind.

Some small steps to getting this thing ready to run this summer as follows:
I have completely finished all brake lines up front back to the proportioning valve, rear brake lines not yet completed. My 15 year old son said he was bored last week and wanted to work on the Mustang so he started doing body prep. He sanded and wet sanded the body in most areas and then start to primer and wet sand those areas, he has never taken on such a task so with a little guidance on my end I have to say he did a fantastic job. Engine plate should be here today at anytime now via UPS and I will start the mock up of the engine and trans. This has been a steady work in progress and this car has seen more attention than the previous 460BB Mustang I just parted out. I will provide some updated photos soon. Everyone keep doing a great job.

Here are a few current photos taken today. Taking a little longer than I wanted but I couldn't use the other cam I had so i had to order a custom grind billet cam. Not running a belt drive so the block needed to be machined for the timing chain. Short block will be finished the beginning of next week and the intent of the long block to be finished by the end of the week. I'm pretty sure I will run into needing to mill the intake because the heads have been milled and the block has been decked (.150). Crank is in the block, rods and pistons have been mated and went with a 9 key way billet true double roller timing chain. Currently file fitting the rings with the correct gap for NOS. Took the oil pan, timing cover, gaskets and intake bolts to the shop today as well. My expectations from this combo is mid to low 9's naturally aspirated and mid 8's on the bottle.

I had some additional work done to the heads that will be finished tomorrow and the complete engine finished next week, so it will be running this spring.

I finished running the brake lines from the proportioning valve to the rear end, I think it turned out good. Wasn't exactly sure how I was going to do it at first but once again, it turned out good.

Lookin good man, what kinda hp it gonna make

Naturally aspirated on E85 I'm hoping for 700-750hp, with a 250hp shot I'm hoping for 950-1000hp at the crank. Of course there are a lot of factors to it, this is best case scenario.

The engine looks good

Thanks

Forgot I have to send the torque converter back to PTC to rebuild it for my new application and modify the mounting tabs for the 1/8" block plate instead of a 1/4" mid plate. Also have to remove the timing marker to install the engine plate and modify my billet UPR timing marker to be used with the engine plate. Man there is always something to do and then redo. Also have to remove the baffles in the valve covers to work with the rocker stud girdles.

Just little things now to get it ready, the engine build was the biggest wait.
It's the primer, not going to worry about the paint until all mods are finished to the chassis and it's running correctly.

Haven't really done much being I have been super busy. Just a small update but no pics at this time, just sent out the torque converter for PTC to work some magic for the new combo. It was currently set up for a N/A motor, they said it would be loose for the NOS.
Who all is using a PTC converter and how do you like it?

PTC shipped out the torque convertor on Monday so I should get it today or tomorrow, gives me something to do this weekend. With the help of my brother we were able to get the trans mocked up in the chassis to measure for the drive shaft length needed. I will be using the one I had made for the BBF but it will need to be cut down. I'm able to sit the SBF further back in the trans tunnel. Should be completely fitted by the end of the weekend with the exhaust and everything.
