I received this in the mail the other day. Im hoping it helps the transmission live longer as it suppose to "soften" the hit or launch.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49984700017_3d04c64705_k.jpg

Not a lot of options on where I can mount it.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49983920103_d2b55df44c_k.jpg

But changing out the braided lines to the Black braided helps blend it in.

Got the relays for it mounted up.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49984699987_7388820f65_k.jpg

Pulled the seat so that I could get under the dash easier...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49984729872_58bee412e6_k.jpg

so that I can make a couple mounts for 2 micro switches. One will activate the 2 step (im taking it off the shifter handle) and the other with De-activate the Tamer.

Busy, Hot night in the garage last night.

Easiest way to work under here, remove the seat.

Some misc brackets from Lowes and some micro switches from Amazon...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49991431141_00ed51c8c1_k.jpg

came up with this setup. This will turn off the tamer.

and this one will activate the 2-step

Looks like me racing this Saturday comes down to Republic Diesel as they are fixing my DS that I had to Beat the Shit out of to get it out. I ordered a new slip yoke, rear u-joint end, u-joints and balancing. They had to order the yoke, so I got my fingers crossed as the weather is suppose to be awesome!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49995423096_b761fed6de_k.jpg

spliced it in and then ran the 2 wires needed over to the shifter area and put the carpet back down.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49995676872_9782d769b8_k.jpg

Hopefully Ill have someone come over after work to give me a hand getting this installed. 10 years ago, I could probably have done it by myself, but Im smarter now and employ help.

Yes

Why is the tamer illegal? Others run them.
I talked to Tug yesterday and he WANTS to allow Tamers in the series. As long as you release your clutch with your foot, and not a TransBrake style solenoid, then you're good to go.

Well, thats not good. Was looking for 3rd gear and it was not there. I hit it, but then the shifter popped out and then that sound of ugliness came from under the car. Mother Fugger...The smell of trans fluid on hot headers knew that I , once again, have killed the trans. Seeing the fluid on the ground, that just verified it.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50222066282_964ba6b577_o.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50222066622_44b65833f8_o.jpg

I was also rewarded with a trailer coated with NAsty Ass, stinkin trans fluid as well.

I didnt see any windows, in the trans, so thats a good thing, but Ill know more later on.

One good thing came from all the $$$$ I have invested in this POS TKO600...
Jacob Lamb's son needed some parts for his TKO, so I told Jacob to come get this out of my garage. He wanted to pay me for it, but his family is going through a lot of shit right now, so I asked him to help me at the track when I get it back together.

Now Im torn between a 6 Speed Magnum and a G101A. Do I go Full retard, I mean Racecar, or keep it on the street...

redfirepearlgt
08-27-2020, 11:34 AM
KEEP IT ON THE STREET SIDE! Too beautiful of a vehicle to be limited to a trailer and a few passes each week. If you plan to do that, sell it, buy a Camaro with an LS and turn it into a trailer queen...I mean race car...same thing.

Kwik92GT
08-28-2020, 12:52 AM
Tough call. I'd love to see it stay on the street but it sucks to see you keep dumping money into these transmissions only to have them break on ya. If you are sure a Magnum won't blow up too then it'd be cool to see you go to that route and keep it streetable but you might have to go with the G101A, just so you can pretty much not have to worry about it and have a bit of piece of mind. Crazy to me that you keep killing these things with a NA 'yote that's not max effort and is in a much lighter chassis now than what it would have came in. I mean, what's going to happen when you start spraying the damn thing? :AR15:

draggin50
08-28-2020, 08:29 AM
Id love to see you keep it streetable. That's where all the fun is.

The T56 MagnumXL has been performing very well in high HP applications at tracks. It takes a lot to tear one of them up. You may wish to talk to Brandon Alsep to find out what he is running in his NMRA Coyote stock class setup. I know its a stick car and he runs in the 10's with it.

Draggin 50 can tell you what was in his 800ish RWHP 04 Terminator that held up well also. I never recall him having a trans issue and he beat it like a rug at the track.

I had the stock T56 in the Cobra and it didn't miss a beat. Had the 26 spline input shaft and the RXT clutch.

My black car just has a 3550 in it with some TKO600 parts and it has done good. Knock on wood!!!

That's kinda why I asked if he knew what was causing it. Seems he has had some real bad luck with that one.

I have a ram 900 series disk and a light flywheel and the lowest non adjustable pressure plate that ram offers for my car. The 900 series disk slips when its cold but gets grabby as it heats up. The theory is a little slip on the line but holds power on the big end. I think it is basically the metallic friction side of the ram hd on both faces instead of just one side of the hd clutch. For my little engine with a little spray it works really well. I will have to see what more power does to my poor tranny and clutch though...

Application of power via operator and or clutch are the biggest factors of failure.

I’ve been running a spec stage 1 behind my 2V and then the coyote and while it smells awful I think the little bit slip has kept the transmission alive.

Got the trans install started last night. Dropped off the New slip yoke and old DS to get shortened up and re-balanced this am, then back to work this am. Pheew, Im getting too old for this shit.

Im thinking this is going to be the last manual trans I install, so hopefully it lasts a while.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50326722466_443bb4824a_o.jpg

This trans jack from HF, works pretty well. It rolls around smoothly and adjusts easily with a 1/2 drive.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50326058918_b014f65eed_o.jpg

New Stifflers cross-member installed and the trans is IN! I will be running a Tilton external oil pump to push oil straight to the main gear assembly via a -6 line (trans already had the hole where it needed to be) so ill need to fab up a mount and another micro switch. Im thinking Ill have it activated with a WOT micro switch, but then Ill also have to come up with a Neutral safety switch.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50326058923_48e15f4be7_o.jpg

A few other wires to splice, install the DS (ready next week) add fluid, mount the shifter, install exhaust, then take it out and see if I can break this one as well...Joys of a stick car.

Ill wrap the collector with some Heat Wrap to help keep the pump alive, and maybe make a heat shield for it.

What’s the pump for?

Under WOT, the pump will send oil straight to the main shaft/gears via a -6 Hole. Some of the Higher HP guys are doing this, so I figured since I can break anything, Ill take all the extra precautions that I can get! LoL!

Maximus

HOPEFULLY, fingers crossed, Ill be firing up this back up tonight. I have a buddy coming over tonight to help me with bleeding the TOB and installing the exhaust. When thats done, its time to hit the switch and go for a ride. Im curious to see the difference in the 5 speed vs 6 speed. NO slicks will be on this until I get some miles on the Magnum and get the Tamer figured out. Hell, Ill probably just wash this season and just drive it on the street.

Forgot my cutters the other night, so I went old school...

We had to return to my garage and beat the inside of the drivers side fender in. Im guessing the springs have settled and its been a while since I had a passenger in it. So that took a minute and made us late. I made up for it on the Parkway as we saw north of 100mph for most of the 45 mile trip.

I got around to putting the "street" tires back on and man, I sure did miss the spirited driving on the highway and backroads!

The drive back to work, after I picked the Mustang up from home, was too short, or I was just driving too fast.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51252012660_8da749c682_k.jpg

I figured, the Nova is off the lift, so I decided to go over the bolts on the underside of the Stang.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51251161208_4ff3ec8fe9_k.jpg

Im also thinking about Powder Coating the Drag Rims since they are off.

and Im also thinking of PC the Polished rims as well, since I cant leave anything alone, but Im not sure what color or finish.

Another night in the garage....funny I say that like Ive been out there everynight. :o

My 14 1/2 year old dog, puked on the carpet a couple times, so we had the carpet cleaners come out an douche it. Not sure why they couldnt clean it in the house, but I wasnt complaining.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51324691275_f7ece438e1_k.jpg

Anywho, got the old slicks off the rims and when I find some time, Ill head over to the PC guy and see what I can come up with.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51324691360_9e82b05c0c_k.jpg

I also got the drivers side seat out and I plan a visit to my local upholstery shop at lunch
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51323899148_2a6494fdce_k.jpg

Anywho, not much else going on. Kinda bored with it and thought about looking at trades, but Im not sure what I would want, so Ill just keep on keeping on. Maybe once it cools off a bit, Ill get motivated with it again. Ehh, who knows....

Im on the fence with these. I was thinking the fronts would be all gold, but then I picked them up in person.

Im going to mount the front tires with the blackwall out, and then I can mount the slicks myself, so I should have these on the car tonight to form my opinion on them. Either way, I was and still am bored with the black.

Danny @ Superior Interiors (Here in Bardstown) did a kick ass job on it. The ONLY bad thing, with the seat mounted in the Stang, now I can see just how bad the passenger side one is, so I have to order more material to get it recovered as well. Hopefully the supplier has enough of this material left, as Im thinking that Ill go ahead and have him make me some custom covers for a pair of Kirkeys. You know, just in case I ever want to take this to the next level...

My next "to do" is to make the dash come out with very little effort so that he can cut where needed and keep the car mobile.

Its easier to remove a 1/2 filled tank, than it is to install it and it sucks ass when all your fuel jugs are full. Good thing I had my Glenns Sleeper Tank handy.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52610047252_41c25a426f_4k.jpg

Installed the tank, to only realize that Im a dumbass and hooked the feed & return lines up wrong. So I dropped it down, again, switched the lines, and it was all good.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52611041038_8214772642_4k.jpg

I also flipped the cross-bar and everything lined up much better!

Up next, weld the front bumper bar and then remove the interior and get the car up to Cam for the CM 10pt, Hot & Cold side, and Im sure Ill have other stuff for him to do as well.

Have a great weekend!

I got to see the Mustang in person this am and Im thrilled with the progress!

Not alot of new pics, but I snapped some anyway.

Cam plans on cutting the TB and then welding on the Vibrant band clamp assembly. I asked if we could cut it at an angle so that the tube isnt pointing skyward.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52768386290_81a207b0b0_4k.jpg

These 2 holes dont line up very well, so we are going to drill the flange out and we should be good to go.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52768458978_9ace6b6e59_4k.jpg

We also found that the steering shaft was hitting the rear tube; hopefully we can just shorten the shaft on the column and then re-align it.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52767971471_8f773ac533_4k.jpg

The 3" DP will run through the K-member eng mount. Its gioing to be tight, but it will actually be a solid 3" piece with 2 V-bands welded on.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52767433917_9d95de9faf_4k.jpg

We might have to fab up a partial -10 (1/2") hardline for the drainback line, into the -10 bung on the drivers side oil pan.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52767434762_224dcc3975_4k.jpg

I bought some -16 adapters for the radiator lines, so hopefully those allow some more clearance as well.

Nothing new to report as Cam knows that Ive been working on my Blue Chevy II and that I need all the room I can get in my 2 car garage. So the Stang has been in the back of his shop.

However, I went to his shop, met with him, gave him some more $$$$ and we came up with a plan to get it finished up.

I will be switching over to a PG trans and a Drag radial, and Im hoping to join in on the fun in the NMCA 8.60 Index class, but not sure when Ill actually be competitive there. The car being "legal" to run in that class is more important at this time.

He also told me that he cut 3/8" off of each side of the rear end, so that the tires are tucked under the fender better.
